Default shotgun help

My husband and I were given a Stevens (Savage Arms) 58B .410 bolt action shotgun after his grandfather passed away. I have since found out that it had originally belonged to his great-grandfather. When we tried to look for the serial number to right down for safe keeping we couldn't find one anywhere. We checked the barrel, trigger guard, and bolt and nothing. Does anyone know where it can be found or maybe it was made before serial numbers were placed on guns? If anyone has info, that would be great.

no serial number, take a couple good photos is about all you can do for a lot of older guns. listed as being made between 1933-1945 with 29,000 made, but! there is no listing in the bluebook with a discription, so it is undetermined if the model 58 listed is the one you are asking about

Here is a link to a price reference on the same model. It also has no serial #.

Thanks Baltz and MORC. I took it out of the safe and took some good pictures of it. I looked at it again and I found 3 marks on the top of the barrel right in front of the rear sight. A 13E in a circle, a SP in a circle, and a G (no circle). Any idea what these mean? I'm assuming they're some sort of proof or manufacturer marks?

yes they are, if the gun was a different manufacturer, this reference information might be available. i'll guess it is a date code, 13e, proof test sp, final inspection, g
