Default Bearing Buddies

I have bearing buddies on my boat.

How often should I change the grease and repack??

3. With Bearing Buddy® installed, how often do I need to repack my bearings? We don't recommend inspecting your bearings more frequently than once every 5 years, provided you properly maintain the grease level in the hubs, and your bearings and seals are in new condition when you install genuine Bearing Buddy®. The Bearing Buddy® system maintains a constant pressure of 3 p.s.i. on the grease inside the hub. Since the hub is always full of grease (with proper maintenance) there is no need to repack your bearings. Some customers have reported that their Bearing Buddy® units were removed for the first time after 10 to 15 years of use, and the bearings still looked like new.

The trailer had been sitting for at least 3 years before I got it.
Should I change it just to be sure

My again.
For sure on repacking & checking the bearings.
If it was me, I would probably replace the bearings too. Especially if I didn't know how well they had been cared for in the past.
But then, that's just the way I am... (ol' Murphy follows me real close, always nipping at my heels)

My experience with bearing buddies is not that great. I'd check them more than every five years. I took mine off and check / regrease more often. I'd certainly start fresh now....another from a guy who had a nasty "bearing failure" once.

Thanks guys. I will take your advice. I was steering that way anyway, it always good to hear the same thing and give me the shove to get it done.

Heck, A set of bearing, races and seals would only cost maybe $20 bucks for one axle. If I were purchasing a trailer of unknow origin I would replace them just to make sure.

I work on that kinda stuff all the time and I always recommend to check them once a year and take the bearing buddies off. The idea behind them is great but in all reality it is not a perfect world. They comes loose they hang up and buildd more pressure than they a supposed to and blow the seals out , then coat the brakes in grease. if you do it yourself to repack bearings takes all off about ten minutes total per wheel if that. just my

I totaly agree with FNF-Nick bearing buddys are O.K. but once a year a good idea. Nothing worse than loosing a bearing on the way to or from a outing. Litch Dog
