Default Boat engine mechanics/dealers to avoid or not?

We've all had our problems and at some point needed to take our boats in to get repair.
What's been your experiences with engine repair and who would you go back to or avoid at all cost?
A mechanic in the Corvallis or Salem area would be closest for me. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
My 3.0L V6 Mercusier encountered a problem last Friday. While motoring up onto the trailer the propeller went into sand and stopped my forward movement. I can get the propeller to go into reverse, but will not rotate when put into forward. I checked the splines on the shaft and they are fine. Looks like something gear related. Anyone had a similar experience, if so what was the outcome $$$

Jig, AAA is no doubt the best outboard Merc mechanic around, but for you're MerCruiser you need to see Dennis at Dennis' Boat Repair in West Salem. He is the best inboard wrench I know of. Sorry I don't have the #, but he is listed.

For Yamaha call Debbie at Brown's Landing. She offers the best price and makes dealing a pleasure. Tell her the Idaho guy referred you....no connection or $ on my part. She has just treated me very well from afar and I've never even met her in person. Their web site and e-mail address can be found by checking for dealers at www.yamaha.com under dealer searches for outboards. Good luck...4-stroke....the only way to go!!
