How to get the police to respond
Just had to share this..........
HOW TO CALL THE POLICE WHEN YOU'RE OLD, CAN'T MOVE QUICKLY
George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.
George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.
He phoned the police, who asked "Is someone in your house?" and he said, "No".
Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.
George said, "Okay," hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again.
"Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people in my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now cause I've just shot them all."
Then he hung up. Within five minutes three police cars, an Armed Response unit, and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the Policemen said to George: "I thought you said that you'd shot them!"
George said, "I thought you said there was nobody available!"

Re: How to get the police to respond
Have one very simular.
At our old home some folks around the corner had a couple aggressive dogs (breeds left out to protect the inocent members). Anyway I hear some commotion outside and see that the two dogs have to of the neighbors kids corned between a tall hedge and their bikes. I opened the door and one of the dogs charged me.
I called 911 to report the problem, operator said to call county animal control - it was after 5pm she said so I should wait till tomorrow. After much ado about nothing there was no way she was going to send a patrol car. Told her I'd like to change my report then, she says like an idiot how can I help you. "I'd like to report shots fired" and hung up - 10 seconds later you could hear the sirens coming. The dogs even corned the officer in his car, but that gave the kids the opportunity to run for it.

Re: How to get the police to respond
Yes that is very funny. But that is a possibility here in Forest Grove. For a fast growing city that we are, we have a large crime rate due to mainly drugs. We need all the police that we can get.
Now comes the hard part. Getting people to vote for public safety measures. If the next levy in May fails, then we will have cut backs in police and fire. It is not a ploy, those cutbacks will happen. I can see making a call to fire and getting told that they are unable to respond due to a shortage of men. Or a call that you need police because some ******* is in your shed stealing your tools and the only officer on is clear across town.
I hope that the local voters will get their heads on straight and realize some things are needed and their slight increase in taxes can provide them.

Re: How to get the police to respond
That reminds me of a story my Dad used to tell. Long story short, some buddies of his caught some guys robbing the neighbors house. They called the cops and the response was "keep them there until we can get someone out there". My Dad's buddy responded, "If you're not hear in 10 minutes you'll have 2 dead robbers". They made in time........
It's too bad our Police are spread so thin, that they have to think someone is going to DIE to respond

Re: How to get the police to respond
Seems like we got our priorities turned around.
It's not the severity of punishment the deters crime but the Certainty of Punishment.
With proper police protection many of our other problems would go away.
I hate it when our politicians hold us hostage for more bucks.

I work with many police men and women and most work very hard and they do need more help but more tax dollars are just more dollars the people in charge can waste. I work for the government and trust me we waste more money than we use productively. We don't need more taxes, we need better money management.

Re: How to get the police to respond
It is a great story. But, if you check snopes, I think (if I am remembering correctly) it's bogus . . . . . . 'couple of months ago, when I first saw this, I checked it out on snopes - - - - - I'm not going to look again right now - - 'doesn't matter, it's still a great story and would likely work . . . . Don

Re: How to get the police to respond
Fun stories, but keep in mind that filing a false police report can be a felony. Weigh your options!

Plenty of people say that, but then show them the budget and ask for specific ideas ...

In many areas we do in fact need more money for public safety.
We also need to eliminate waste and prioritize our resources.
A specific example of a place to cut would be seat belt stings.

I am but a low man on the totem pole but have shared my ideas and complaints with my supervisor many times. They don't want to hear or know about it because then they might have to do something about it so here's my first idea. How about we start with some management who are working for the people instead of working on a pension.
