Default Haag today

Just got back from Haag. Fished from a about 11:00 to 6:00pm.
Caught 4 reel fast right next to Ramp A then trolled towards the dam and around the other side 'till I was straight across from A before I caught 5 or 6 more. Then trolled to the west end along the shore and most the way back. Only caught one that whole drive. Got back to the Ramp and caught a couple more- then shot a cross to the other side again where I caught some earlier. Fish on every 5 -10 minutes now. Fishing 10 feet down on the downrigger with a silver spoon. Zillions of fish down below at 30-50 feet- never got a bite below 10ft. Caught a rocket of a 16 incher and a 12 incher- the rest were 10-11.Ended up with a total of 23. Finally the little trouts are hitting lures! Ahhhhhhh- I feel better now!

Oh yeah- water clarity is MUCH improved since my last visit.

T4T,

Your report made my day. I recently invested in some used downriggers and have been dying to use them. I'll have to make a trip up there soon and try them out with some needlefish now. I'm curious how far back do you run the lures from the cable when you are only 10' down?

Also what do you think is the best time of day for that lake? I have two little ones and I'm lucky these days to get 3hrs fishing when they are on the boat. Also early morning trips are tough too. Any magical 2-3hr window you'd recommend?

BTW, last time we were there the best spot was across the lake from A like you described. We got one in less than 10' of water that day.

I usually cast my lure back as far as it will go without a weight-30-40ft and let out some more for good measure. They're not very spooked by the boat at 10ft- or at least they come back in when they see the lure go by.
More is probably better-but this always seems to work.

I find most times that midday can be slow out there (not always). I do like the morning 'till about 11-12. Then after 4:00 it seems to pick up again.

went to hagg today got to the lake at 9am not as many boats as I thought there would be a bit windy with the front moving in started raining by 11 am showers after that launched from ramp c headed south to the dam found lots of shallow fish (2ft-12ft) in the south east corner near the older looking boat ramp there? water temp 57, fairly good visibility, depth 45-60 ft. I used a new method today with the wind I was able to cut the motor and drift from south to north trailing bobbers with power bait my son had a fish on within 5 minutes then another 5 minutes later I also had a fish on at the same time as his but lost it while helping him its ok though he had a great time bolth fish were hatchery rainbows about 12-13 in. once the rain started the bite was off the fish were then hugging the bottom decided to call it a day. lots of people trolling between boat ramp a and the dam some action with that some guys went buy trolling and were making fun of our bobbers so i help up the fish they had nothing to hold up back go figure sucks to be them. also hit a large piece of wood by the dam I went back to it and drug it to the shore not a huge piece but big enouph to scare the crap out of me be carefull of debri under the surface could not see it with the cloud cover, also alot of boats not following the no wake zone for the north end of the lake I like to be able to move between spots at a good clip without messing with anyone trolling if the lake is not that busy and I dont have problem with others doing this but some of these guys were in the 35-40 mph range way to fast thats all for this one.

Was able to fish in the cold rainy weather. We fished Sain Creek, around 3-4 anglers around no bites or anything. Proceed to cast out and after a few mins of casting bite. We ended up with two limits in about 3 hours thats releasing some small and close to legal size fish. They are biting. Was using powerbait and long leaders.

Was there on Sunday also- fish were hard to come by. Of course they weren't in the same area we caught them in last time. Trolled at least an hour before we(3 of us) caught the first one. It was a big fat 14 incher. We used small silver spoons and one split shot- so basically trolling on the surface. I also used the downrigger a lot to get down just a little- to ten feet. I seemed to get more action there or I just HAD to use the downrigger-not sure which. Caught nothing near the dam, nothing across from Ramp A, most we caught out in front of the cove next to Ramp A.
My cousin used a small Yozuri BB plug which got a lot of action. From 7-1:00pm 3 of us caught 17. I then dropped them off and headed towards the west end- LOTS of fish on the sonar and I caught 7 more and missed as many by 4:00pm when I had to leave. Not exactly a hot fishing day but steady action with patience in between!

Went to Hagg today with the family. This was the first trip in my first ever boat that we bought last week (16' Alumaweld Stryker). Got in the water at about 9:30. Reports at the ramp weren't very positive. We decided to trust the fish finder to tell us where to anchor so we could throw out some bobbers and bait. First spot - nothin'. Second spot (out in the middle across from ramp A) got us 4 fish in 30 minutes, all 11' - 13'', all on bobber and chartruesse powerbait about 8' deep. Third spot - nothin'. Fourth spot (again in the middle across from ramp A) got us another 4 fish in about an hour, again all 11" - 13", all on bobber and powerbait.

Everyone had a good time, and I got a chance to learn the ropes about boating. Each kid caught at least one fish. Only the wife got skunked. We're going to have trout on the barbie tonight!

Had a chance to take a friend, his kid and mine, out for a little trout action Saturday afternoon. Six passes, flat lining little gold wobbler's and one small blue fox with one split shot, ramp A towards the dam. We (the boys) had 12 chances and ended up with 6 fish. The wind was ripping so the troll was real fast going east and real slow going west, did not seem to matter much, each pass we had about the same number of hits.
The fish just did not like anything that was touched by someone over 7 years old! The Dads went 0 for 0 on the fish?
