Default Willamette shad

Does anyone have a link for shad counts at Willamette Falls. I have checked ODFW's page and they don't appear to have shad in their list. Or maybe there just aren't any yet. Anyway, the Columbia dam passage sites have sections for them, does anyone know if the Willamette does??

I know the chinook didn't show up on their website until they had some go over so maybe the shad are the same way.

Bite me is correct. The shad do not go above the falls.

If your really into Shad fishing try running a rig for them while your nookie fishing up at Oregon City around the first of May. I have caught them as early as April 25, but Early May is when they start showing in fishable numbers.

You'll know the Shad are in at OC when you see boats anchored in all kinds of weird places screwing things up for the salmon fishermen, boats putting out 300' of anchor line when 100' is plenty, and the boat launch is taken over by people who have no idea how to trailer a boat.

By May 15 there are usually fishable numbers of Shad in the river.

It's just about time for what I call the "chain reaction" fishing trip. Oregon City, garbage hole at daylight for Shad, 'bout a dozen or so. Then haul it out and jam up to the Fishery and hook up a peeler or two. You'll be the only boat up there with the fresh bait approved by the Sturgeon General. I love drifting down the river with the deluxe buckle!!!!!!!!!

What's a Springer anyway?, seems like I used to know all that stuff.

Can't be sure if it will be the same this year but we were catching Shad at Coon Island the 4th of May last year. I'll keep my eyes and ears open and post any news.

In past years the only way to find out if the Shad were in was to close down the Willamette for Salmon....People would change over to Shad gear just to be out there OOPS!! Another salmon on this triple teazer

I keep an eye on the Bonneville counts. Once they start hitting quadruple digits then it's a good time to go shadding.
