Smile Albie Fishing Boats/Charters??

Here's a question for ya'll:

For fishing albies from the Oregon cities between Newport bay to Tillamook Bay, are there any GOOD recommendations for boats/ landings?

I'm looking for primarily myself to possibly 2-3 friends to go. Open party trips are OK too...

Thanks for the help!!

Welcome aboard!

Newport is good, Tillamook is good and my favorite, Depoe Bay is superb.

Out of all those ports we usually end up close to the same areas.

If I was going on a party boat, it would be with Dockside charters and with Captain Loren.

My first choice would be with Nalu Charters, nalucharters.com and get enough friends to fill his boat.

Have fun,

Thank you very much!!

Typically, what would be the "prime" months for albie fishing here in oregon? I was thinkin' late August to early September?

I do understand its not exact but can you put me in the ballpark?

I know normally in mexico its usually from LATE june through the end of August for longfins, then the yellowfin and exotics arrive from aug. to sept.

Am I at least on "right field"?

Thanx, Joel

Nalu charters out of Depoe Bay.

Fished with him many times - knows his stuff and runs a safer operation. Ideal for 3-4man groups.

PM him at Nalu. or check out his Web nalucharters.com.

July, August and September. As MarkMc says anyone can catch a tuna in July.

I favor the first weeks of July and do well every year then. You can catch as many as your boat will hold most July days using simple troll gear. The wild card is the wind. As the summer goes by the wind events get less frequent and persistent. The last few years the wind has lasted through August. Later in the summer the fish switch over to small baitfish and you have to change tactics to casting at jumpers, live bait and other methods. The fishing gets harder.

So if you are flying people in to go fishing go with the sure thing for weather. That would be late August/early September. The fishing is harder then but at least you'll get to go.

Thanks for the positive responses guys. Just a quick clarification.... I think the "r" should be left off of 5-Salts post. I do run a "safe" operation, but I also know for a fact that Loren runs a safe operation as well. He is a good skipper with a good boat, and extremely safe. Like me, Loren would cancel a trip well before safety became an issue, more so when fishing would become uncomfortable.

I can highly rate Dockside as a office that operates their boats safely and with their customers interests in mind. When I'm booked up, that's where I send people, and I typically recommend either Perry or Loren.

Joel,

Yeah you are in deep right field just inside the fence.

Just want to let you know, albie fishing up here is a bit different than maybe what you are use to as it's basically a trolling show. After say mid Aug into Sept, the fish do start responding to the plastic and the troll bite can get a bit tougher. It would be great if you could meter the fish, shut down, dump some bait over and get the fish to go that way.

The season is pretty much the same as down south, though we are still waiting on some YFT's to show up one of these days. The "party" boats are smaller but do go faster.

Most of us fish on private pots so everyone keeps an eye on the weather............

If the BLITZ is still running out of Newport Tradewinds I would recommend going out with Capt. Mike Stowe who is the owner and operator of the BLITZ. I have been going out with Capt. Mike for the past 4 years and every time we go out he has the most fish on board amongst the charter fleet in Newport. Last Summer Capt. Mike was talking about moving to Alaska so he might not be around any more.
