Looking for great BBQ location for about 150 people.
We are looking for a location to hold a wedding reception somewhere in the Portland area. We were married out of state, and are looking for someplace casual to hold a portland "reception". This will be a casual BBQ in late June. The biggest issue, is that the weather just can't be counted on to cooperate for SURE... so we need someplace that has a cover. We are considering city parks... amongst other places. We also want to be able to bring a keg or two without any big restrictions... and BBQ our own food without the need to pay a caterer.
Does anyone have any good ideas. Do you have a park close to your house where there won't be another group 2' from our party? Somewhere a bit smaller and out of the way?
Do you have a big horse barn you'd consider renting out? We are the most respectful people you will meet. I promise your place would be treated as my own... and be cleaner than it was when we arrived.
Any ifish ideas???
Much thanks!
Dave

Blue lake park has covered areas but I am not sure on the beer thing there. Oakes park might be able to handle this also.

Rooster Rock State Park in the Columbia River Gorge or the Rose Gardens in Washington Park (west hills).
I am not sure about alcohol but I bet they have a permit process. With the city parks in Portland you can obtain a permit. I think the rule is no hard alcohol but beer and wine is ok.

Ft. Stevens State Park has open sided shelters near Coffinberry Lake with BBQ facilities and lots of room for a crowd.
Reasonably priced but may be a bit far for you to drive.

Try Metzger Park in SW Portland Tigard area. Full building available with kitchen and oudoor facilities for the BBQ. Playground for kids and horse shoes for adults.

I had a reception there once. Awesome party .
Wish the marriage would have worked out.

Check into Hornings Hideout...might need to rent a large tent though. They have a website.

I did a BD party for my Dad at Barton Park. We had it catered by Buster's and it was pretty reasonable. Barton park has covered areas that you reserve and alcohol was OK. You can even fish the Clack if you feel like it.

Oxbow has some nice covered group areas. Not sure what the "official" rules are on alcohol though.

Re: Looking for great BBQ location for about 150 people.
The Mazamas have a very cool lodge just to the east of the developed part of Gov't. Camp. You cannot see if from the highway or from the Timberline access road. They make it available to groups....you might inquire if you'd like that kind of mountain/meadow setting.

Pisano's at about 189th and S.E. Powell. Lots of Receptions here.
There's another, Lakeside Garden, that is on 170th and S.E. Foster. Private, by reservation.
