Default Advice on Ochoco youth elk hunt

Anyone have any experience with the Ochoco youth elk hunt, 237T, Oct 13-19? Just wondering what your experience was. Did you see many elk? Shouldn't be too crowded as it appears the entire unit is open for just 220 tags.

If you don't want to make your information public, please consider sending a PM. This is likely a one-time hunt for us and we don't really know anyone else to share any secrets with.

Thanks,
Biederboat

Your going to be hunting right after Deer season. Most of the elk will have been pushed hard into the private lands. I would concentrate my effort on borders of private land. There are elk all over the unit, you can find them pretty much anywhere and nowhere. Just hike some miles and you will run into some.

If at all possible I would go up early during the end of rifle deer season and ask some hunters if/where they have seen elk. Let them know what your reasons are and Ill bet a few will share some info. Small talk goes a long way with alot of hunters.

Another idea is to go talk to the guys at the Ranger station. They used to be fairly willing to share some info.

I used to deer hunt up there and still elk hunt it every couple, Some years they are where we like em in big numbers other years they are spread way out. We hunt within the road closure area.

Pray for a little EARLY snow!
