Default DSL Wireless Modem....Need Help!!!

I am going to be subscribing to Verizon DSL ( Only one available where I live ) and want to set up a wireless system for my house. I dont know very much about computer stuff so any sugestions would be VERY helpful....

My house is approx.1800 sq. feet and the router would be in the middle of the house. When I look at the ads for wireless routers theres always good, better, best but I dont know what I really need. I dont do much except surf the net and emails....

My laptop is already equipped with a wireless modem so all i need is suggstions on what and how to set up the wireless router....

Thanks in advance....

John, Standard wireless G router will work just fine. I recommend the linksys, they seem to have the best tech support to help you set up your secured network if you need it. You can usually find these on sale for around 50 bucks.

Hey John,

The wireless thing isn't very tough. I would buy the middle of the road router and stick with the same brand.(I personally have Belkin equipment) That way you can make sure its compatible. Your laptop should pick up the network without doing a thing. Follow the directions and you're good to go. With the size of your house, and the fact the router will be centralized, should give you a strong signal all over the place.

Like said above, stick with the same brand for everything, and you will avoid the compatibillity issue's. I like Linksys, and own all my hareware, starting with the cable coming out of the wall.

Inexpensive. Wireless routers can be had for very little money.

I like linksys because they have a great program that you can download from their website that steps you through setup, encrypting and trouble shooting. Every once in a while, my new wireless router loses my computers. Until I have time to sit down and figure out my problem, I can just click on the program and it fixes everything for me in a minute or two. I do have to figure it out, but I'm not screaming at the computer in the mean time.

You might check with Verizon but I think you can get there wireless modem and you wont have to worry about or maintain a router that costs you $.

I have Verizon DSL and a house the same size as yours. I went with a Netgear unit WTG624. Easy to setup, just plug your computer into it and there is a program that walks through the setup. Then connect your DSL to it and fire up the 'puter. It has firewall and security encryption. It has a 400' range, so I can take it anywhere on the property. I've had it up and running for over a year, with zero problem. I found mine on an internet auction site for a very low price.

You can check it out here, if you like -->> http://www.netgear.com/Products/Rout...rs/WGT624.aspx

BINGO!

Get the wireless built in to your modem, make sure you're wepped and natted and off you go.
