What I NEED!!!
O.K. Dogs,,,,
" Englands will ship to you " Ive been told.
So here is a question for the dogs.
You have 200$ for tackle.
Excluding swim baits (I have lots of those ),, what are the essential clone colors ,,,,,,,top three will do.About 5 of each .....
What size / what hook /and what head weight.
Would like some Yozuri hydro mags maybe 4 or 5 /do I switch hooks on these ? If so to what ?
Then feathers What to get ???
Is there any $ left ?
Is 200$ gonna get me enough to get me started???
I need a bit more knowledge before I call up Englands and start asking stupid questions......

Re: What I NEED!!!
TCF100 in zuchinni, pack of 10 for $45.
TCF100 in purple and black, 5 at $5 ea.
TCF100 in Mex flag, 5 for $5 ea.
(20) tuna double hooks ~ $2 ea.
200# leader, $20 a spool
300# sanpo swivels, $5 for two (boaters world for that one)
Zuker broomtail in zuchinni, $9 ea.
Zuker broomtail in Purple and black, $9 ea.
Damn that was hard. But all stuff that would be in my bag as a minimum.

Re: What I NEED!!!
Yes, 4 inch, feathers, about 1 ounce lead.
If I had to pick just one it would be the TCF100 in Zuchinni.

That takes care of the TCF100 size. Could use the same in TCF200 size.
I think I would get some metal jigs in there somewhere. Any of the smaller of these:

All the bottom rows starting with the purple and silver side by side are designed for albies, etc. The little purple and silver jigs are P-line Minnows. They weigh 2.5oz and are 4" long. Rumor is that they are about half-price on the weekly special at Charkbait. We have done well on troll stops, jigging metal while the single is reeled in. Those 2.5oz holo-jigs look like the ticket.
The two biggest ones weigh 400gms/14oz, the top two knife jigs are 300gms/10oz. Who knows what you might hook slinging one of those around below a tuna boat.

Re: What I NEED!!!
Thanks .
I now see the other side to tuna and its addiction.
A 200 dollar bill is only enough to get me a bare bone minimum.
Im so glad my wife likes tuna....
Thanks again....

Re: What I NEED!!!
That is why, unless you are running the boat, you are better off to ask the skipper what he needs and fish his gear.
If you are outfitting a boat then you take it a little bit at a time. You can easily fill out a spread or cover a size/color with lead-head hootchies until your tackle bag gets a little heavier. When guys ask "what do you need" tell them to "bring a couple of broomtail Zukers with the dark green head" and pretty soon you will have an arsenal.
Think early/late, too. Early in the season the TCF-100 size bait is killer because they are feeding on small squid (gee, could little-bitty hootchies work?). Later in the year the albies tend to focus on small baitfish and the trolled squid imitations become decorative and about as effective on them as Salsa music.

Re: What I NEED!!!
Its getting close to the big show.....,,,, little at a time is right.
Ive been outfitting my boat for three years.
Back ups on electronics , better VHF ,
Radar
PLB
New tougher rods and reels
so on and so forth
Finally,, after all the safty equiptment has been purchased Im ready to start getting tackle.
For three seasons Ive been with out tuna gear.
The only gear I have fished is swim baits ..
Now its time to get a box and fill it with evpensive tuna gear.

Re: What I NEED!!!
Now all you need is a house at the beach Chris. $200,000 ought to do it for some decent digs. See if the wife goes for that idea. Hey, it worked on my wife.
I like John's list and will add that early season fish really like pink and white feathers big time. If I had one color to run it would be the mexican flag colors in either clones or brooms. There are some days that those brooms are absolutly killer when the clones are doing nothing.
If you had said $300 it would be so much easier.

1000 dollars later ,,,,,,,,,
What a great endeavor......this tuna thing has become......

Re: What I NEED!!!
Well Chris stop by some time and see your future. I have three clothes baskets full of stuff. Stuff I bought and stuff left by my generous riders. Digging through it all I realize all the times I had bought something with a rigging project in mind, lost it and then bought more. That's just the makings. The boat is fully rigged with ready to fish gear.
I have no business buying any more gear. It may take me a couple of years to use up what I already have. Maybe some line, Ringed live bait hooks, flourocarbon leader, tuna bite tails ....
Man this addiction thing is harsh .. where's my 12 steps?

Re: What I NEED!!!
Chris, $500 should do it. I'm pretty sure I'm under that, unless you count rigging supplies and all. The Hydro Mags are $15 each, so that eats up a lot. Rigging with 7/0 Siwash hooks instead of tuna doubles will help quite a bit, though.
I have clones, cedar plugs, chains, bars and diving baits (Yozuri and Rapalas). Plan on adding a few Zuker brooms, but not more than a couple hundred dollars worth. Wait a minute......

Re: What I NEED!!!
A guy can catch lots of tuna with a $100 investment in lures. Five Zuker-type feathers (mix up the brands a bit, make sure some have heavier heads), a cedar plug, a handfull of swimbaits.

Re: What I NEED!!!
Chris, how is your relationship with the banker? How is your credit score? And do you have a good psychologist? These are the real questions a tunaholic should ask.

Re: What I NEED!!!
Well, I had an idea. It always puzzled me why clones cost so much, when all they are is a plastic squid body and a bullet weight.
Took the new DR650 down to Sportsman's just now, to browse for Doskocil and Pelican cases to strap on the bike. While there, I looked at the hoochies, as I need more to rig up bars with. But it occured to me that all my clones are 200's, and everybody seems to like the TC100's just as much, if not more. Well, the 4.5" hoochies are close, and I thought if I stuck a weight in the head, and rigged them up, they may catch a fish or two.
So, here are the components for ten baits. The bodies and weights ran under $7.00, and the hooks are about $0.40 each:
So, even including rigging, these babies cost just over $1.00 each. If I had to do it over agian, I'd use 1/2 ounce weights instead of the 3/4 ounce, and smaller hooks, like 5/0's or 6/0's, rather than the 7/0's, but they were what I had on hand:
Chris, if these work, you can plug your boat for $15.00 in lures.
It was quite a coincidence, because my wife and I had already decided on dinner tonight, and it happened to be tuna salads:
