Default Positive vibes please

Your resident fishergeek was laid off on Thursday as his employer struggles for profitability. I was the only one axed from my department, just a week after an excellent review. When I was called into the office I thought I was going to find out about how much of a raise I was going to get. Instead, the major income in the family is gone.

Mind you, I was the only family man in the department. That extra amount of cost for the company (health insurance) is probably what the difference was between myself or someone lower on the totem pole being let go.

Whatever the case, we are checking out our options in the Jackson household and would appreciate some positive vibes from the iFish commmunity in this challenging time.

I've been in your shoes so I know how it feels. Hang tough and use any connections that you have to see what is available. Have you read the book "What color is your Parachute"? It is good reading and helpful during times like this. Good luck on your job search bud.

This is a good opportunity to find a better job. Hey and if you don't then you can spend more time fishing now. Seriously hang in there and go test out the job market. My father in law is also looking for work. I think the fishing civil engineer would be a good job for him. Except "mom" doesn't want to live near the river.

Fuzzy was laid off from his job 2 years ago, it was a very stressful experience. He kept a positive attitude, kept looking, and gained another job after a short while.
Keep a positive attitude Fobbman, there IS a light at the end of the tunnel.. and I'm sure you will find a better job, especially one that has better appreciation of family values You are in our prayers.

I am so sorry that you are having to go through something so traumatic, Fobb. You must feel very frustrated.
I will keep you in my prayers.
I hope that something turns up quickly for you, and if there is anything we can do for you, let us know!

fobb,
I feel for ya man. They just laid off 30 people where I work in the name of profitabilty. A lot of those guys were good friends and have families to support. If they do anymore cuts Im out the door.
Keep your head up and eyes open, It may be a blessing in disguise. Like steelheadman said you may find a better job.
I wish you the best, and hope things go well for you.

Fobb, I feel your pain man. The recent down turn in the economy has pinched us all one way or another. Keep your head up! Believe it or not, during the bad times is when most companies pick up their best employees, only because someone else didn't see their value. It's probably one of the worst feelings in the world to have a company that you dedicated your time, heart and soul to to turn on you like that. I've been there, but I'm smiling now.

I feel for you. We were there not too many years ago hoping for state jobs after graduating from college.

It didn't happen.

Maybe for the best.

And as I look back of all we've learned
we started our own company. We struggled and we struggled, but we remained tough and true to ourselves. We had a daughter to raise and bills to pay. So we did what we had to do and we didn't cry about it.

We got out there and hit the road. Talked to everyone and made ourselves known.

Worked everyday and did jobs we never thought we'd EVER have to do, but we did them.

There is light at the end of the tunnel.

Never quit.

And you will survive. Be tough!

And don't forget to smile!

I will pray for your success in finding a good job and your family.

Marie

About six years ago I found myself unemployed due to a vengeful act of a departing manager. I was the last thing he did before he was removed from his position. During that time I was unemployed for about 6 months and took advantage of my wife's generousity and did a lot of fishing. I recall one day when I went out to Henry Hagg without sunblock and sunburnt my shins pretty badly. If I wasn't moving it felt like my shins were being stabbed with ice picks, but even with this visual she wasn't the least bit sympathetic, as she was working 8 to 5 to allow me this pain. Needless to say fishing is out of the question right now.

We've done a lot of talking and figure that with my combined PC and Mac experience that school districts might be a good place for me, and Vancouver in particular seems to be hiring. They're on spring break right now, but I'll send up resumes anyway.

Thanks for all the kind words everyone. While I will avoid using the names "Fuzzybutt" et al in my references, I do appreciate all that has been said. Regardless whether I can figure out WHY this happened, I know that it happened for a reason which will be evident at a later time.

I will update as updates are warranted.

A guy like you fobb is destined to land on his feet! Unfortunately the corporate mentallity is such that it puts profit above loyal employees but you'll be stronger becuase of this experience I guarantee it!
My company is doing a massive downsizing and sending a good portion of our works to Mexico where they can exploit that country's lax enviormental and safety regulations and pay meager wages. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR LABOR UNIONS!!!!
You need to go out and hook either a big spring Chinook or a late run native steelie.
Best of luck to you and your family.
