Default Need Stumpgrinding Service

I have 3 Stumps in my backyard that I would like to have ground out. Would any of you recommend a specific company that has done this for you before? Any idea what this type of service would run?

I know that a guy can rent one, but each of these stumps are fairly large and next to either fencing or my deck. I would rather pay someone who knows what they are doing.
Thanks,
Wade

Can't rember the name of the guy I used, but WISE decision in having a professional do it. They make it look easy but those things are extremly dangerous!!!! You should also be sure to call for a locate service before you get someone out there to give you a bid. There are all sort of things burried in the ground that you don't want to pay to have repaired. Phone, electric, sewer, old oil tanks, etc. If I remember right I think I paid $200 for about a 24" blue struce stump that was easy to get the equiptment to. Of course then I had to chase the roots another 20-30 feet by hand. You will also have a huge muddy mess once the stumps are gone due to all the excess water they used to suck up. I had mine done about this time of year and it was several months before it dryed up enough to run a tiller through before laying new sod.

AJ is right, hire it out! The Pros get to use the bigger equipment that's easier to handle.

I ground about 40 stumps over a weeks period of time and would not want to finesse against a deck or around a house. One other thing to watch for are you out pipes from the downspouts. They are easy to repair but another annoyance.

Make sure your contractor is bonded!

Get a grinder from United Rental. It's not complicated at all, they will give you all the instructions you need. It will cost you around $100.

Depending on how fast you want the stumps gone you can cut a big "X" into the stump and let them rot out too. Just take your chainsaw with an old chain and cut down as far as you can. It takes a little but it does work well and is good for the soil.
