Default Nissan Outboard

Was wondering if anyone had any experience with nissan outboards. It seems like they run a little cheaper than the others but figure that must be for a reason. I am looking at their 9.8 nothing fancy just something to push my little 14 footer around.

Any opinions? (like I have to ask if anyone has opinions at ifish)

Hey Grits, I ran a 1996 25hp Nissan 2 stroke for a couple of months. Thats about all it took to realize I traded down. The problems I had were constant carb adjustments and poor low end performance. I ran the highest quality airplane fuel and Amsoil mix. Even tried different plugs. No difference. Wide open it ran just ok, but it did start real easy. BTW, it came with the boat. I've seen competetive pricing, you just have to look around.

Who knows, maybe they have gotten better. Good luck.

Oh, the other thing I remember is I think GI Joes is the only factory authorized rep in town and they had a poor repair/spare parts selection. They didn't even carry the spark plugs for the motors they sold.

Hi Grits,
I have a 15 hp Tohatsu which I understand makes the Nissan.(or vice-verca) I have had it new since 92'. Has been a very dependable Torky motor. I have enjoyed it. I have it on a 10'9" inflatable I bought also new in that year. That motor on that boat can pull a Knee Skier with 2 other 190lb boys. I use for about everything from Kneeboarding to Lake Trolling, Lately it's been a driftboat for me down the Sandy River, Which I yet to catch a fish. I still put the motor on and Back troll with it also. But wish me luck anyway. I'll be trying a gain In the morning. Good luck on making up your mind. Also the Inflatable Boat center On Powell sells them still and services both. Any other questions feel free to ask.
