Your favorite gear they don\'t make no more
I'm sure everyone here has a favorite piece of equipment that is not made anymore. A favorite lure, reel, garment--whatever it was. Let's see how many goodies we can list that are no longer made, but works sooo good. Do you still use that item? Or does it just sit on the shelf, or in your tackle box to remind you of the good times. Do your eyes scan the dusty back shelves of sporting goods stores for these items, hoping that others may have overlooked them?
I'll start---my shimano bantam left hand. It's been rebuilt twice. When I got it, it was the best reel I had. It's now been replaced by a Curado, but I'd never get rid of it. I remember how long it took me to save up for.
Let's hear em'

A Hardy Perfect flyreel. A true classic.
An Orvis 100A spinning reel from Italy. Best drag from a spinning reel that I've ever felt.
Okies and Birdys come to mind also.
Anybody remember the "Cox" levelwind reel?

Re: Your favorite gear they don\'t make no more
Ok, the indestructible, inexpensive Diawa 50H reel. Graphite one piece spool, nice star drag, big handle and Whopper whipper extradinaire!! Just ask all those peelers I drag up to my boat every year, they'll tell you.
Yeah I know they started making them again, but at $150 instead of $49.99. I'm keeping my oldy but goodies. Ollie Damon will keep me in drag washers for years to come. Oh and the Mitchell/Garcia 300 spinning reel. I've got a few of those left too.
The bend is your friend!

The Berkley Power Rigger downrigger rod. Only a $50.00 rod but I've been using them for ten years with no problems. Anyone know where I can find a few new ones? Also a small flutter spoon. It has a musical note on it, no name. The maxi mate tackle box, Great for trolling spoons. Someone started to make something like it though.

Re: Your favorite gear they don\'t make no more
Hackle beads? Are the the pink skirts (not what Ya'all wears to RT's parties) that are attached to a bead? I have a few of those.
Now I have to rummage around
Shimano Bantam..one fixed up for the wife to use because it is right hand retrieve.
Rainbow Birdies...still in shock and mourning that they are no longer made...almost out of the smallest size, about 50 of the large ones, used to replace go-glows.
Pink Nail polish Okies... I have about 10 that an old fisherman gave me. Now what do I do..if I use them they're gone..if I keep them I can always use them later...
Cherry Bobbers....see Pink Nail Polish Okies
Go-Glows...Chartruese and Orange.... absolutely the very best steelhead catcher...I have none...I have none...I have none...I have none...

Re: Your favorite gear they don\'t make no more
This one seems obscure, but I used to buy a lure 15 or so years ago called a Spawn-sac-spinner. I had a 40+ silver season using these when I was in highschool. I spent most evenings and lunch breaks from school, fishing that year. I started making my own versions of it this winter and plan a repeat performance on that expected, large silver run this year.

pssssssssss, anyone listening. well thru my travels, I been buying up okies and birdys lately. Going to tell you where you can find some. The great American Tackle shop has birdys and okies. big ones and reg size. I left them after buying alot.also the tackle shop in Sandy,Reel tackle has the small rainbow birdys. The Estacada takle shop got birdys and few okies. Well there is one shop I wont mention, because Im not done buying out their supply.

Re: Your favorite gear they don\'t make no more
This one was one of my late fathers favorites. Its a chartruse and orange dot (clown pattern) flatfish. No one seems to make that one anymore. It was about the size of my thumb. It was a producer and dont know why they stopped making it. It worked good for a slider down at Meldrum bar while plunking for springers.......Fishhead Vic

Re: Your favorite gear they don\'t make no more
The search has been long and hard...but I got lots of most of these . If I don't have it I have adapted to make my own. I recently scored with hundreds of birdies, pink okies last year.beat ole69 out for those, got some bantam 350's from ebay, got a cox level wind (cool reel) don't have any skirted beads..never seen those. Got three 5000d's (they are on ebay all the time)Still have my orginal box from the one I bought.
got some of those shrimp louies that I have never fished enough ..ok i used one once (will have to try them again).
tadpollies are available with out rattles by ordering them online.
But my shortfall is the Ray Bobber. I have a small collection (dozen of the good ones .) To precious to use still. I am stocked up on my favorite cheaters too. You just never know when the best stuff is going away.
I have a fishing tackle collection disease..I need to start a tackle shop to satisfy my need to have gear....If I could only get myself to sell good stuff...sorry guys. my most unusual piece of gear is a raybob spinner similiar to a cherry bob except it has a windmill blade (thanks dave). Got a fix in the mail today from cabelas. I better get busy or I will miss out on a fix for tomorrow.

Pink skirt? That's not what I wear you Olympic ballerinas, that would be a grass skirt. What else would look good with my afro?
Hey fishhead, Sportco in Fife had a kwikfish (K14) like that in there 2 weeks ago, or a slight variation, and there was only 1 left. Seemed to be a hot item. The chrome with the charteuse spots on it seem to be a hot item too. That Faith Hill is a hot item, but she's off the shelves

Os, I have two working 110N's as it is that I may never use again but will hang on to. As far as making peace i'm not sure that I ever started a war in the first place? But i'll tell you what. If you are willing to be seen over at my place kicking back in one of my martha stewart recliners while watching the disney channel and throwing down a couple of o'douls with me we'll see what we can do

Re: Your favorite gear they don\'t make no more
Rods, 2 in particular come to mind. My first one and all time favorite are the old brown fiberglass Fenwick 8 - 15 lb 8' drift rod with a slow tip. I have 1 left and it is the best plug rod I have ever used. If and when that rod breaks I am going to commit suicide. They are making similar rods again but I looked at them and they are not the same quality.
The green Pro Rod with the chinook on the blank above the reel seat. I have one of those left also. I have put about 40 chinook on that rod and I bought it used from a very well known and succeful guide after he became a Loomis pro staffer. This rod has probably seen well over 200 chinook and the action on it is still incredible. This is my main chinook drift fishing rod.
Oakies are awesome too. Luckily I have 2 1/2 gallon ziplocks full in the garage.

Re: Your favorite gear they don\'t make no more
Hey Marty, don't bring up that ebay auction. Sheesh, go away on a trip and you go and outbid me. Like I said, you paid $59 dollars for those okies, but I found 200 of them in a bag on the Hoh that same weekend. Os has seen how my stash has grown, so I did ok anyways.
Hey Tanner, I do believe you're talking about the F81C? I know a couple people that have them. My Dad has a couple, and I know a friend who has THREE of them, and he has NEVER fished them. He was given them, and never uses them (trust me, I've tried a thousand times to talk him out of them). I myself love the old Fen's. I have a couple F85C's, F88C's, and F89C's. I buy them up when I can. Have you tried the 85's for plugs?? They're very similar, only it's an 8 1/2 foot length. They're a bit easier to find. Just a thought. Hey DK, I too love the Kunnan's. I have about 10 of them. Alot of fly rods, and a few salmon/steelhead rods. I too wish I had bought more. I buy them when I can. I've actually heard about possible new rods out there. I mean NEW NEW. Not sure if they may have started reproducing them. I have a guy letting me know what he finds out soon......
