More of the same
Got my morning fix on the Willamette again today. 10 boats with a total of 17 rods fishing between the OC bridge and the 205 bridge. 4 bankies tossing spinners and the only fish on was by a bankie. It had 1 to many fins and went on its way.
This is really getting old. There is not a morning bite at OC.

Bait, I feel for you.
I can't catch a springer either. Maybe it is too early....That is what I keep telling myself. Hang in there. If you do, I will!

Re: More of the same
Well, BOE, if you keep doing what you're doing you're going to keep getting what you're getting. What you need is a good marketing plan. Perhaps erect an underwater sign that says "Free Shrimp! Free Eggs! 1/4 mile ahead!", then fish a quarter mile above the sign. You could have the post office deliver some direct mail coupons to the fish, and maybe throw some flyers into the water behind your boat. (I don't think that's considered chumming). If you have to release some fish, given them frequent customer cards, the kind you punch holes in for each vist. Have them tell their friends! If you approach it like a business instead of a hobby, you might be able to increase your success!

I like your thinking HappyBrew.
I just told somebody here in the office that I need to quit tossing my bait in the water before I come to work. The fish know if they wait till 7:30 I leave a free breakfast.
Maybe if I hung one of those triangular shaped dinner bells on the boat, I could ring it once in a while and let them know it is feeding time.

Re: More of the same
Bill just called. He got off the water just minutes ago.
He said in the stretch he fished, around Milwaukie, that they haven't seen a fish since Saturday there.
Hmmmmmmm,
I'm baffled.
Where are these fish?

Re: More of the same
Are most of these fish heading up the Columbia, it sounds like they've been having some good days up around Bonnieville. Also seems to be allot of natives in the bunch, could those be Columbia river/Idaho fish? Just a thought.

Re: More of the same
What you really need to do is get one of those singing trout things, paint a drunk smile on it, glue on some fake fish boobies and a bikini, and chunk it out there. Run a dropper line and see what happens. Alternatively, you could also glue some big muscles on it, stuff a small sock in his pants, and put a little diamond ring on the dropper. Might be able to put up some eggs that way!!

Re: More of the same
BOE, sorry I missed you. We didn't get in the water until about 6:00 or so. I ran up to the sandbar, saw one boat anchored there, and saw that the current wasn't what I was hoping it would be. So we went downstream looking for the type of current I like. The best looking water was right against the island, but I couldn't backbounce or backtroll because of the hoglines. So we hogged up on the inside of a line, were in great current, great clarity, 12' deep and didn't touch a fish. Tried some great looking prawns, kwikfish with bait wrap and couldn't buy a bite. We only saw two fish caught down there, out of about 20 or so boats in that area. There's not even very many bankies out any more!
I still don't believe there's very many fish up there. The water conditions may not be perfect, but it's not all that bad either. If next week comes and goes without a big improvement, that's when I'll start to wonder what's going on.
