Default I FOUND K-13 KWIKFISH!

Well - Fishermans at Delta Park has the K-13's, but don't get too excited - they only have one color - fire orange. They had several boxes of them - I'm guessing a total of about 50 K-13's. I didn't buy one - they didn't look real special and I've never had luck with any plug that didn't have silver in it. GI Joes had some cool new colors of K-14's next door on sale for $3.88 ea. Fishermans had several open slots for K-13's so hopefully they will be getting in additional colors shortly.

Hey Killertraylor,
I was reading about your sliding cork setup on the kwikfish and was wondering.....doesn't
the sliding cork mess up the hookset? It seems like the orange stop wouldn't be enough

Don't get too fired up about a lot of different colors in the K-13, at least initially. I talked with Buzz about the new plug and according to him it will be out in just 4 colors. I think he said: flame orange, silver/red dot, silver/chartruese butt, and silver/chartruese & green butt. At least for those looking for silver there's a couple of options. Silver/red dot has been a favorite of mine for both salmon and steelhead.

The big advantage (as I understand it) of the K-13 is the way it is constructed. Rather than having a top and bottom half like all of the other K-Fish, it is constructed with two sides. Supposedly this provides a stronger plug that will run truer with less fuss than the others. I haven't played with one yet, so have no first hand experience. If it tunes easier than a K-12, then its a good thing.

Hope this sheds some light.

Jawbreaker - I run my mainline through the cork (without the orange stopper in it) then through the orange stopper (I like it on the bottom) and then I run the mainline back through the top of the cork again - it holds tight as can be. I've landed 14 fish with it this spring (three today) and it hasn't slipped once. About two years ago I had a loose one that slid down the line to the weight, but it didn't matter - the fish stayed on. I don't set the hook on them anyway - when you fish with the spreader bar and the 3 size 4 trebles they always stick real well and if you yank too hard you might straigten out a hook. However, one of the fish today hit and my drag was tight as can be from reeling up when the boat next to me had a fish on. It just about jerked the rod out of the holder, but the fish stayed hooked. Usually I just leave the drag super loose and let the fish run until we can get the boat untied, and then tighten the drag and start pumping him. Hope this helps! And Chromer - thanks for the update - the silver with pink spots (I call it a clown) is what I cought all 3 fish on today. I saw about 50 fish cought by 30 boats- about 10 miles up from the Astoria Megler bridge. You'll need to bring your own piling if you want to fish there over the weekend!

I need help.
Since this is really a community board, I need help in figuring out a fair way to pick winners of some K 13s I am supposed to get in the mail soon.
Buzz said that he would prefer to send out painted ones, and gave me a number. I forget... Anyway!
can you think of a contest, where several could win?
I think, I don't know for sure, but I think I will have half a dozen or so to mail out.
Jen

Better yet, why not use member #'s. Should end up being an awfully large hat....

Fisherman's Marine (Delta Park) had lots of K-13's today around 1PM, but they were going fast.

Well - I bought some K-13's and I'm disappointed. They are built differently than the K-14's - they don't have screws. You can't unscrew the tail screw, open it and insert a spreader bar to put 2 hooks on the tail. You also can't turn the front screw to tune it. I know that Jennie said they don't need tuning, but I'm thinking that the correct way of putting it might be "they are impossible to tune". Hopefully they will run straight the way they are, but they don't look any different in design otherwise than the K-14's so I doubt all of them will run perfectly straight. There was another cheap lure that came out this year that copied the kwikfish - they sell them in huge white coolers at GI Joes for about $3 - they look just like a kwikfish except they have laser paint on them. They are the same as the K-13's - no screws so you can't add a spreader bar or tune them. For most people, this won't matter but I thought I'd let those of you know who fish Kwikfish like I do. Also - Fishermans had plenty of Chartruese billed and yellow tiger K-13's left and they are on sale for $3.99!

Hey Jen, One of those just might be worth letting you sit in the hot seat! Just kidding! Right! The green butt with green cross stripes and chrome body were sure working for the boat next to us Saturday. 5 hookups and three keepers. All we had was one takedown. K14 size.

Seriously... Member number would work.

yes, clearly only those who have never caught a springer IN THEIR LIVES should be eligible.
