In a cloud of shattered Carbon Fiber
Well of bits and pieces
Kind of an off take of Hogmaster's hoof (How is that hoof going G?).
I play a LOT of racquetball, and probably responsible for some of Hog's disease, the last couple weeks have been stellar short of hyper extending my knee and rolling my ankle and torking that same knee.
Anyhow I've been hitting real well and brought my velocity way up, I've only lost maybe two games in Open/A doubles. Anyhow last night was going real well - when suddenly the ball is going all over the court. Then I realize there bits and pieces of carbon fiber on the floor. wonder where those came from
I think I found the structural limit of an Ektelon o3 Red
Sad thing was this was my favorite stick - "a pool of puddles and tears, just a pool of tears . . ." oops Genesis Squonk in the background - sorry distracted yet again.
The pin that keeps the string in the throat of the racquet ripped loose shredding most of the throat at the same time.
Oh well, my replacement is on Big Brown this afternoon - being a sponsored player has its perks -

Re: In a cloud of shattered Carbon Fiber
Sorry to hear it...been there. Worse part was not continuing the game. When i was playing tournaments, I always carried 3.
I am a string breaking fool.

Re: In a cloud of shattered Carbon Fiber
I read the title and thought you might have been exploring the outer limits of rod construction. Glad to hear it was just a dumb raquet. Can ya' git that thingee a little tighter next time?
So, you are the one who put the nickle under Hoggie's innersole?

Re: In a cloud of shattered Carbon Fiber
I carry 4 racquets - two prototypes and two production sticks - I only use the prototype racquets when the others are toast or there is a product line test going on. Last spring I broke three prototypes at different locations all structural failures.
So when you gonna start playing again - Our Phase 4 will be done in time for next years Turkey shoot in November and the club is hopping right now!

Re: In a cloud of shattered Carbon Fiber
That kind of embarrassment I don't need, Ted.
The last time I played, the ball got back in one of those corners and kinda trickled around for awhile, still on its first bounce mind you. I waited for it to start back out, then I hit it as hard as I could. My opponent was put off his timing and had just started to look back to see what the holdup was when the ball hit him squarely between the eyes. Six-packed! Oops....

Re: In a cloud of shattered Carbon Fiber
getting hit is part of the gaem - got hit last night on my left hip pointer - OUCH! In school I dropped my coach with a well hit ball square well you guess where - he sang soprano for a couple days afterwards and turned blue when I hit him and almost quit breating - his first two weeks back after a heart attack
Check this one out, this one is from State Singles 2005. In the semi finals in 30 Open Doubles - I had just tied the second game after 8 straight ace serves, a Gresham cop friend of mine unloads on this one - pics was taken by a racquetball photographer friend of mine a few days later.
That sucker hurt for months

Re: In a cloud of shattered Carbon Fiber
Looks better than my paw.
Stick hits so hard he breaks racquets.
I broke a ball about 6 months ago.
It was about a year old.
I was so proud. Then I realized it hit the sprinkler head on the ceiling.
Didn't mention it to my opponent though.
Sometimes I just sigh when I am in the court getting a lesson from Ted and I square up, hit a full forehand in excellent form as hard as I can, get a kill in the corner and he says. "Nice touch." Nice TOUCH!?
They call me "noodle arm" at my club for a reason.
When I get in the court with Ted it is an exercise in eye motion. My eyes trying to follow the ball. Don't waste time actually trying to get to it. He hits as hard as anyone I have ever seen.
If he hit me square between the eyes, I would fly to the front court, no doubt in corner kill shot fashion.
ALWAYS WEAR EYEGEAR. I saw a frat bro in college who had his right eye stare about 50 degrees off into space all spring term after being clocked. He came back in the fall and it was reasonably centered again, but that taught me.
PS - Stick, I don't think I'll buy that hand-me-down!

Re: In a cloud of shattered Carbon Fiber
I have more hair than that on my head. And this is a family site ghesish.
Right below the ribs, about 8" below my arm pit just a tad behind mid line. Almost dropped me.

I thought this was a Formula 1 thread?
Those impacts look painful.

Hum, I resemble that remark and you should need to look far around her to confirm that fact
