Pipeline is on the Sandy below Dodge park. I hope everyone is OK. Dangerous water.

The Sandy. And its a wicked rapid. Its always amazed me that anyone can run it in a driftboat.

What a horrible feeling to be that guy. I can totally understand how he felt. Been in very similar situations a couple of times. I sure hope he's okay.

I have to confess I learned what the pipeline was the hard way. I wanted to try that once....not researching the river and low summer water... so.... I decided to drag my boat upriver back to the boat ramp because there was no way I was going to try that chute.

Hope they are on dry land and in good shape

Info from Grant Brown. He told me he was pretty sure the DB smacked the first rock just below the put in.
Everyone is OK.

Wow, what a bummer. I have often thought of taking my DB down that chute, but after hearing this story I will continue to hold off. I have however done this float in my raft many times as a younger kid. The last time being in the floods of 96', me and a friend of mine decided to go for it, and we paid dearly for poor decision making. We did not pull over and scout the run instead choosing to just go for it. Before we knew it we were upside down and in the drink in the middle of Janurary.

Being pulled under water for most of the run, I felt very lucky to be pulled out by my buddy who how had somehow climbed back on our capsized raft. The water was flowing so hard we had no choice but to ride our raft (upside down at this point} down around the next two bends, and set of rapids before we could stop and right the ship. That section of the river still scares me to this day, but I will be back to give it another shot some day, just with a lot more respect for the river. Accidents can happen so quick, you don't even know what hits you. Anyway, I hope everyone is OK, and the guy gets his boat back. Be safe out there, life is too short, don't make it shorter than it has to be.

I've run it in a hardshell kayak and its not one to mess with. It gets my heart pumping just before you drop into it. I saw a sea kayak try it once, paddled it to the middle and wham upside down. He got out OK. A three foot curler looks like a 6 foot standing wave in one of those.

I floated down today. The DB is upside down in slack water, right side, in the pool above the long straightaway coming into the Gage Hole.
