Question Controlled Hunt Draw Question

I'm contemplating putting in for a deer hunt that with 1 point is a guaranteed draw. However, I nor anyone else who would apply have any points. My question is if the party leaders number comes up and there are 6 tags LEFT to be drawn and there are 10 people in the group do they get passed over as they would be exceeding the allocated tags? I was under the impression that you would be passed over in lieu of ODFW going over on the number of tags drawn. Now I understand that they do draw more tags than they feel an area can accomodate as some people don't buy the tag they drew. Anyone have insight on this??

That's alot of what-if's. If you apply for a party hunt, it is all or nothing. They are not going to give 6 people in your party tags and leave a random 4 out if you all put in together, just because they ran out of alloted tags. My guess is the remaining 6 tags would go to individuals (non-party applicants) or a 6 person party or less.

Apply separatly your odds are better. Because 25% tags go to people with 0 points. It explains it in the regulations. It kind stink but at least a few people might draw.

The way that I understand it is that if your party were to draw, everyone would get the tags, even though it puts more tags out there than alloted for that particular hunt. With that being said, your odds are better putting in as individuals rather than a giant party.

I understand the apply separately, but 5 of the individuals who would be going have very little in the way of hunting experience and I wouldn't want to just throw them out to the wolves if you know what I mean if they drew out and none of us who have hunted the area didn't draw. But at some point you have to learn to do it. I suppose that I should contact ODFW and ask them how a situation like that would work.

If your party is six and there are only 5 tags left in the pool to draw then the computer automatically kicks the party leader (and all with him) out of the draw. You then go into any 2nd chance draws you have put in for.

25% go to people with less points than is needed to fill the 75%. So if you have 1 point you are still in the random draw.

With 1 point and 9 people with zero, you have zero in a party app. They take the average, in this case .10 The other bummer is they also round down when you have .50, so even a two person app with one guy having 1 and the other having zero is still zero.

Put in as individuals, you will draw for sure since you have one point so you wont be throwing anybody else that draws to the wolves since you will be there with them. And you can all still go as a party to show the new guys the ropes even if they are walking along with somebody that has a tag they will still learn a lot, and next year everybody that didnt draw this year will draw this unit if its 100% with 1 point. Also it most likely wouldnt come down to your party getting drawn and only 6 tags being left or whatever, you would probably get passed up before it down to that point depending on the unit.

I called ODFW today and the gal I spoke with said that if any party leader comes up and there are more people in that party than there are tags left, the party leader is passed over. Looks like I will make 2 partys out of the one big one.
