You can also go out to E.E. wilson and shoot at their trap range. You need to bring your own thrower and its steel only. But it sure is close...

Re: Place to shoot arround corvallis?
The EE Wilson site is only for shotguns and clay targets, no plinking. These days it seems harder and harder to find good locations to shoot. So joining a gun club may prove to be your best opportuity.
For the Corvallis area, there isn't any real close public land, perhaps about 45 minutes west. So the Albany Gun club might be your best bet.
good luck,
Gregg

There is some BLM out around Mary's Peak, but you will need a good map.

Re: Place to shoot arround corvallis?
If you take highway 34 past marys peak and then take either the third or forth turn on your right (it should be the only turn that isn't gated, you will turn right off the highway and you can then go straight/right which is gated or go left up a logging road) go up the logging road and take the first right which is about 1 mile in and then that road should deck out over a big clear cut you can shoot from. This was at least the case when I was living down there two years ago, alot can change in two years though. The area around marys peak does have alot of land if you can avoid getting lost up there, there are also alot of logging roads up out of alsea, it is a bit of a drive from town but is beautiful country and you may just get to see some elk and turkeys while your out there.

This is partly because people leave so much garbage after shooting! Pick up your shells and targets to make sure our kids can enjoy the woods...

Re: Place to shoot arround corvallis?
most blm land is open to Rec shooting.. But west side, lots of yellow gates & no Rec shooting. Like it was mention Folks are tired of picking up trash. Plus, with the increase in Meth Monkey's. Lots of Meth Toxic dumps, plus Spent Hypo needles.. Etc. Nasty stuff if you bump into it.
The woods just is not the same anymore. Either join gun club or head eastern oregon desert.

Re: Place to shoot arround corvallis?
I remember when I was in your shoes, and someone directed me to a local gravel pit. It took me about 20 seconds to determine that I wanted no part of it! There was junk all around, and people brandishing firearms, both pistols and rifles, with no regard for safety or personal protection, i.e. eye and ear protection. It sounded like a war zone, and looked as bad. I didn't want my name on any part of it.
So... I asked around (like you're doing) and found the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club. I've been a member ever since.
They've got covered pistol bays, a covered rifle range to 200+ yards, and a trap range. They also have a smallbore indoor range and clubhouse. And if you're interested in competition or sanctioned shooting sports, they've got everything from Benchrest and Highpower to Silhouette, IPSC, and Cowboy Action.
They're on the web at http://www.arpc.info (If I'm not supposed to post the link, will one of the mods let me know and I'll remove it)
At any rate, I assure you it offers LOTS more than the local gravel pit.

If you choose to go this route, please all I ask is you CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF! The company I work for, which isn't up in this area is about on the last thread of having our rock quarry open to the public because we now have enough applicances to service 10 houses. And they all have bullet holes in them! If it were me, I'd go the gun club route, but being a poor college student (yes, I was there 3 years ago) the woods are more inviting. Just take the extra minute and pick up your targets and brass.

You need to be careful about the lands surrounding Mary's Peak. Almost all of this land is private property and is not open for target practice. It may look big and vast but this is largely private land. The land is only opened for hunting during the general hunting seasons. BLM land is scattered in smaller clusters making a map very important and the Natiaonal Forest lands are further west.
best of luck,
Gregg
