Default any coin collectors here?

I went to an auction yesterday and bought a bag full of coins, all of then are from other countries. How do I find out how much they are worth? And where can I part with them for a fair price? Thank you in advance.

Mods. I am not selling the coins here, just asking for info, so please dont delete. Thanks!

If you call your bank they can do a currency conversion for you. They may have to call you back with the conversion rates.

Interesting. You bought a bag of money for money and you don't know how much it's worth? That's funny! I love that!

I must have over 100 coins and a bunch of paper money. I have a silver coin from mexico that says $5000 on it. I went to the currency converter and it says that it should be worth around 450.00 or so But I may have gotten it wrong.

I collect them but pretty much only U.S. coins. The best thing Iwould recommend is to call around to various coin shops in your area and ask if they deal in foreign currency and if they have a price guide similar to the U.S. Red Book that would help you with foreign coins. I'm sure something like that exists, just not sure exactly where to find it. You may want to try the library as well once you find out the info from the coin shop. The only foreign coins I ever kept were some of the old Iraqi bills that I got from the first Gulf War. Interesting to show the kids and such. Good luck!

So if you collect coins, I have (1) .50 cent peace liberty 1853, and a 1823 Quarter, and in Paper a 1900 Canada .25, wondering what they may be worth????

Norski, the condition of your coins is what determines the worth to a large extent. The better the condition the more the value.

This got me going, for nothing better to do to day, I look in the safe, and I have a gold coin, it a deboom, don't know where it was from for sure, but my brother found it in the basement of the US Bank in down town Portland some 30 years ago, from pictures I have seen, it looks as good as you see on TV after they wash the coins.$$$$.$$ ?????

Also try looking on Ebay, and see what similar/identical items are selling for.

BTW I collect stamps (not coins), but in general, when you go to a coin/stamp shop and probably auctions, someone of knowledge probably already picked out the valuable items prior to the sale/auction. So, what you're left with are the more common, less valuable coins/stamps.

However, its fairly common for them to miss a nugget or two with high value, particularly if the seller is not knowledgeable about the stamps/coins. So, check your bag of coins carefully--there may be some really good coins in there.

You're more likely to find really valuable stuff at estate sales, garage sales, etc.

at this auction they didnt give them much time to check everything out and just sold it as a bag of foreign coins. Little did they know that there was a bag of old stamps in there as well. I only paid 35.00 for the whole lot. If I get my money back out of it, I will be happy.

Go to the library. Look for " The International Book of Coins" I think thats it.

My grandmother had a similar collection. I looked up her coins in the book and it said they were worth several thousand. My mother paid a fee to have them verified and sure enuf, several thousands.
I still have that collection.
