Default S. Fork Toutle

Dear friends Has anyone spent time fishing the S. Fork toutle this winter or winters in recent past. A decade or so I fished this lovely stream often I intend to spend considerable more time their in the near future.

There was a post with the same question in December.

South Fork Toutle

Seems attention with this river has been stimulated since the article in Northwest Fly Fishing.

If your thinking of going , don't, the river has been devistated since the floods this winter and as far as the article goes, it's a bunch of squat. The SF has been good in years past but can change with each rain fall. I'm not saying fish can't be caught but you should plan on spending several day's learning the river before ever expecting to catch anything.

I'll agree with Stonefly...The South Fork, has completley changed, and I mean completely. I was very surprised to see how much the river channel had changed, the old bridge hole doesn't even have water flowing through it anymore.

thanks for the reply. Years past I have caught some tremendous fish from this river. The bridge hole you mention was next to the loggers home one of my favs. I would love to see how much the river has changed. My fishing partner and I enjoyed the freedom of being able to walk for miles along it gravel banks and not see hardly another fisher all within 1.5 hours from portland. I am going to call wdfw and find out if escapment goals are being met.
