Default A day in the life of MrDorkfish

Got up early to a bright sunny day and downed a pot of coffee....but got out late cuz i had to take the wee one to school, before i left i stood there staring inside my boat trying to find out what i forgot...."come on dad...i want to go now". I got to my exit and where's my life jacket! Turn around...anyway,i get to the river and out to my spot and anchor next to a very nice older gentlemen.....then someone pulls up and drops anchor about mid-boat inside of me and drops back about 100ft I was fishing on his anchor line for about 2 hours till he left. A beutiful day for fishing but not catching so i went in about 2:00 to be able to pick up the wee one. At the ramp, I pull in and there are 5 empty slots....tie up the boat and head up the ramp....A guy decides to back down in the middle of the ramp about 5ft beside my boat...uh....what about the 4 other slots to use? I think ....he'll be out of there before i get my trailer around and back in....WRONG !! I had to sit at the top of the ramp and wait for almost 5 minutes...yes i was timing it, I was not really mad but confused.....Was i wearing a kick the dork sign today or what? What I am trying to say is share etiquette thoughts again on here because THEY ARE COMING!!!

Last fall at the ramp above Gov. Island(I forget the name) I tie up my boat twords the back of one of the docks because I had to get my truck and I didn't want to block anyone, when I pull up theres a guy backing his rig back and forth trying for perfect placement I guess, he then gets out of his truck and starts walking away!!! I ask him where he's going and he says to get my boat It's parked over by the mud bank!!! I couldn't believe it About 5 minutes later he comes cruising up into the dock area but by this time there are other boats backed up waiting to get in. It takes this yo-yo about another 5 minutes just to get in the slot and another 5 trying to get it on his trailer. Of course by this time the people waiting on this guy are starting to give him a hard time he just gives us all the finger as he leaves!!,I swear the whole event took 15 minutes at least, I understand when people are new and have trouble backing trailers etc. but this guy just didn't care who had to wait for him....why don't boats come with torpedo's I could have used one that day..... And I thought I only had days like that. Unfortunately, those with patience and a willingness to take things in stride get the opportunity to do so more often than not.

Has anyone ever noticed that May - September yields the biggest bunch of boat ramp idiots that you see all year.
I have a 21' Alumaweld inboard that I launch by myself all the time. From the time I start backing down the ramp to the time my truck is parked for the day is usually no more than 5 minutes.
It absolutely amazes me how 99% of summer boaters (with $30,000.00 fiberglass boats) have absolutely no clue about how to launch those things and how to respect other peoples interests while at the boat ramp. I am a pretty tolerant guy, but I have a very hard time keeping my temper in check when some moron is clogging up the boatramp and holding up my fishing.

A couple years ago, I docked my boat at the furthest point out on the end, went up to get my truck leaving my 1o year old to tend the boat - I came back to find my kicker hanging off my transom, cover cracked, boat dented, transom damaged and my daughter just beside herself... some moron came into the dock to fast, crashed into the back of my boat - backed up and took off! I couldn't believe it... I understand well enough how sh-t happens but to not be human enough to say hey, "I screwed up" ... I still look for the vague description boat she gave me... I'd really like to talk to the operator.

I've always enjoyed the guys who park their boats, whether occupied or un-occupied at ramps like Fred's or Goble, right in front of the ramp. You really wonder what people are thinking sometimes. I understand being by yourself or with someone who doesn't have enough experience to back a trailer or load a boat, but if you asked me to help, I'd do it. All it means is that I'm going to get in or out faster.
