Default Barrel Guard removal tool?

I have a Bushmaster "upper" on my AR 15 with a 14" hand guard. I need to remove it in order to clean the exterior of the barrel, but do not have the tool that is required to insert in the holes at the base of the barrel. (Hope you understand my question)

If anyone has this tool, or would be willing to loosen the hand guard for me, I would be most appreciative. (I am obviously new to the world of AR's and could use help doing this simple job.)

PM me if you can help. (I am located on the West Side of Portland.)

Hey Rusty, do you mean the handguard? I've got a handguard removal tool. I can meet you back at Border's on Cedar Hills Blvd and see if it will work or not?

Guys,

Rusty's got the free floating barrel, and not the standard carbien handguards like mine. Does anyone have a strap wrench they could help Rusty with?

Yes, I have a strap wrench, not far away either, but I also think ya need the vise blocks for the action too....don't ya?
Believe it or not, I never messed w/ AR's. Mine shoots fine as is.

Rusty.....Would a can of crud cutter (or brake cleaner) get it clean for ya?

unless you're shooting a lot of ammo loaded with dirty powder, the ain't much reason to take off the handguard.

The gas tube can be easily cleaned out with a can of gunscrubber aerosol. I think I've cleaned the gas tubes maybe once on each of my match AR's. I sure wouldn't take the weapon apart to do it.

The guys I shot with that had constant, weird malfunctions were the same guys that had to take every thing apart on their ratguns. The first time a float tube breaks loose while you're at Camp Perry (and it happened to one of my best buddies) kinda told me to leave it alone.

A good quality ratgun should be absolutely dependable with minimal maintenance. Clean the bore, blow out the receiver occasionally and call it good.
