Default The predator hunt today.

What a lovely day, sun, rain, sun, rain, wind. Would have been a good elk hunting day. Did see a couple cows. The highlight of the day was the piebald deer that I saw.

I know crummy pictures, but heck I'm no Silverpicker!

The low point of the day was right after I left the pickup on the iron horse. Seems the locals had a little party and left a mess behind.

So what is with the little hole in the bottom side of the beer cans?? A little whacky tobacee? They had quite the party, dozens of beer cans, food wrappers, hand warmers, hard booze bottles. I can see why kids don't want to pack this stuff home, but surely they are smart enough to know they are cutting their own throats. Well maybe not!

Made 5 sets but no takers today, looks like I'm going to eat that bobcat tag. I have called four bobcats this year, but no rug!!!

Saw 2 elk, 7 deer (no fawns-one yearling), 4 ruff grouse. Oh, I did call in lots of camprobbers!

I see the mess like that around Timber alot too, I cleaned up two camp sites last year. The hole on the can is either from smoking dope or shotgunning the beer, kids poke a ho;e in the bottom and start sucking the beer out then crack it open and they get a powershot of beer. Dont really know why they would want to get hammered so fast, I prefer takin my time
What area was that piebald at? was it close to Timber area? I saw one out therea few years back, I thought it was a goat at first. pretty cool to see them out there

North of hyw.26 a few miles off of Timber road. My Dad had seen this Doe during elk season, he was quite startled to see her. That was the only time I have seen him express an interest in a Doe tag.

Bill, I think every cat that I have called has been on the woodpecker call. The two I called years ago were also on the woodpecker, in fact I'm convinced it is the same recording. Unlike what a lot of people experience all the cats this year came in with in 10 minutes. I must be setting up right on top of them. So are you riding your horse and making Chad walk? Find a nasty hole!! Good luck, hope you guys get one.

Just from college, that's called shotgunning a beer. I'm in Michigan, so it wasn't me! Doopty Doo!

P.S. The woodpecker call is my secret and favorite in these pasrts! I'll outcall the locals 10:1 with that! Using a hand call that is....no recordings.

They make a hand woodpecker call??? How hard is it to use.

I thought shotgunning you poked a hole in the bottom of the can, not a finger size hole about 1/3 up the side???? I'm thinking beer can bong.

Rank, I use a Verminator Tweety, and "trill" my tongue as I call. It really makes a birdy sound and I've had great results with it. In a lot of areas it's my go-to call, the first one I try.

BTW, any chance that pie-bald effect is residue from HLS?

Skein, I wouldn't think so, HLS is as you know an actual thinning of the hair, this was an obvious change in color of the hair. Sure was unique, wish I would have had a lot better camera.

The reason I wondered if it was a residue of HLS is because of what I've learned about horses. Often when there is an injury, the hair will grow back white. I wondered if hair loss might in some instances do the same.

You are most likely right and there is no connection.

So, you 2 think that's funny huh? I would tell you to sand, but my momma taught me to respect my elders...

I would be happy to just see a Bobcat, we have covered quite a few dry miles.
Cool piebald by the way

Skein, I forgot about that with horses, what causes that? Hmm...you never know. I would think there would be a significant increase in piebalds if that is the case, but then again it could just be a percentage of them. My brain hurts. It's hard to tell in the photo, but the darker spots are not brown, but grey. I wished I had more time, I never got the bino's on her. My Dad wants that Doe for a full body mount.

Limbhanger, you are just hunting with the wrong guy. If you had been hunting with me two weekends ago, you would have had your cat and I would have been standing there...... darn whippersnapper.
