Talking Old Elk Sheds!

With the elk commencing to shed their antlers soon I thought I would post some pictures of a very old pair. These elk sheds were found by my family in the late 30's or early 40's. Unfortunately, the exact date of the find is unknown. My dad knew when they were found but he is no longer with us (God rest his soul). For many years they rested in the rafters of an old shed we had on the ranch. Recently, my brother had them mounted on a plaque and he put them in his shop. They were mounted to hopefully portray how they were worn by their owner some 65-70 years ago. They never have been officially scored but a friend of my brother's roughed each side at approximately 160. As they sit mounted the outside spread at the widest point is right at 60 inches. I don't recall most of the measurements, but I believe from the base to the tips they are ~55-58". I could get exact measurements the next time I am at the ranch. Here are a few photos of these antlers and a couple of deer sheds my brother has found. Any guesses to what they would score?

Thanks,

Those are very nice for some reason I love looking at old racks. The Mcminnville gun club has a bunch of old racks in their lodge.

The pictures don't show that rack real well. Sure wish I could have seen that one.

We don't get to see bulls like this in our area any more or very seldom. The pictures don't do any justice to the actual size of these antlers. The mass is phenomenal. I am not sure I can reach around the bases well with both of my hands.

Isn't there a spot in the record books for sheds? Too bad you just missed the sportsmens show, you probably could have had them measured. Since width no longer counts you can get a very good idea on what the bull would have scored.
