Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
I am new to ifish, I am an outsider. Englunds will never get my business. I have bought from them and they were very helpful. I spend at least two weeks every year supporting the local economy around the buoy 10 area. The majority of the people on the salty dog forum are pro Englund because they are primarily tuna fishermen. When Englund tries to shorten and/or steal the sport catch from the tuna fisherman, they too will be upset. No one is going to argue that Englund has a magnificient supply of gear and is very helpful, but one day he will try and steal the tuna catch for the commercial fisherman. Just dont say "he told us so."

Reason: moved from the Anyone else planning on buying from Englunds thread as it is a different topic.

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
Not a real good way to start your stent on the salty dogs. I hope you find what your looking for, unless you are just trolling along. How about a story or 2.

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
Isn't impressive how quickly a nice, positive thread about a nice, positive thing can turn into such a sour, slimy *bad dog!*.
I applaud Englunds Marine for their support of the recreational fishermen.

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
Let's not get sucked into an old tired issue that was resolved here long ago. I suggest MR or MS ID try and stir some other pot.
Let's let this thread die a natural death.

There ain't much applause happening on the Columbia, I can tell ya that.
As far as tuna and bluewater gear...the online sources have waaaay deeper selection....plua they're not stickin' in to ya in the commercial v. sport decisions.

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
You'll find little support disparaging Englunds from people on this board that know the generous support that they provide for the recreational sportfishers of coastal communities. As community leaders in the coastal towns that they are a part of, the local employees and managers, as well as the company as a whole has earned a lot of respect from those who ACTUALLY deal with them on a regular basis.
Everyone is free to their opinion. The opinion of many sportfishers on this particular board is that Englunds as a company goes out of their way to work with recreational anglers.
Of course everyone needs a scapegoat when they don't get their way. Englunds as a coastal company, and non-Portland entity is the easiest witch to to try and burn. Since professors at OSU can't be hung up, go after the only thing you can.
This is a tired old song already.

This issue wasn't resolved because Englund is still on the board and Everyone on I-fish wasn't allowed to talk about it after the secret meeting between I-fish heiarchy and Englund.
They won't ever get a dime from me.
I applaud the new guy for speaking out against this issue.
Sticking your head in the sand or kissing Englund's popo doesnt change the past. It just guarantees the future.

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
Some people carry so much anger and animosity in their heart it's really alarming. Others like to incite the animosity in an anxious crowd, for personal agenda.
Jon Englund because of his history of being a fair, kind hearted, and knowledgable representative of all fishing groups, has been selected to rule on the ODFW board.
Last years 5% latitude on the ESA(endangered species) gave the ODFW day to day schedulers room to keep the ESA percentage at 43% to 57% .This equates to 83% sportsman vs. 17% commercial, total spring salmon harvest. These total catch standards 83%/17% are the bottom line, the seventeen percent for your grandparents to buy at the grocery store, (public entitlement). Having a flexable ESA last year was an attempt to help the day to day schedulers of the springer fish runs.
IMOP in the near future fishing at night with large mesh gillnets, (instead of tooth tangle nets), in the peak of the season will improve the ESA. Less net time in the water equals less ESA. Englund Marines estimated income from sportsfishing is around 40%, estimated income from gillnetting approx. 5%.
Commercial harvest with less impact to ESA will be developed.
Back to the thread. Englund Marine is a third generation family operation in this area. The Englund family is a legacy in itself for the kindness and generosity for the public and employees. Customer service is taken to a new level at Englunds. This is a company that is a shining example of Northwest character, integrity, and hospitality.
A myopic minority trying to portray a man like Jon Englund as doing them injustice then punishing his business and employees is.?????
Joan of Arc was burned at the cross. Are we still in the dark ages of persecution?

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
I am anti-Englund but I think that this thread should go the way of the Dodo birds especially since most everyone has agreed to disagree on this subject. What a way to start off...

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
Sportfishing dollars do little to support Englunds. Commercial dollars do. No commercial fishermen, no Englunds. Plain and simple. Realistically, those that wont shop there probably didnt shop there in the first place.

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
I don't know what all the comotion is about nor do I really want to. Spring salmon to me is something to do when the weather is nice and I'm bored but I stand by my fellow sport fisherman and do very little shopping at Englunds.

Re: Englunds and the tuna fishermen
Could one of the Mod's just lock this thing. I'm surprised some of the dogs even responded. This is the last happy place on Ifish and it would be nice to keep it that way. If the river boys want to hash this out again I wish they would do somewhere else. If it doesn't get locked hopefully this will drop of the board like a turd in the well. All it takes is no more posts
