Re: 3 more days til Kauai!!!
Have a great time out there. I was born and raised on Kauai in Kapaa. I try to get back every year and will usually try to fit one major activity into the visit whether it's dirt biking, hunting, fishing, etc. My folks tell me the weather has been good and bad but it's still better than Oregon right now.

Right on Brah!
I will post pics of this years trip when we get back. Got married there 3 years ago. I have family on Oahu and Hawaii but, haven't been to those islands since I was in the Navy 20 years ago. I love Kauai.

Re: 3 more days til Kauai!!!
I just got back from there Last Sunday it was great! We got a 8'-9' glapagos shark to the boat, several amber jacks and one yellowtail. We went out with Captain Don's charter. What a beautiful place. Take the helicopter ride it is worth every dollar.

Re: 3 more days til Kauai!!!
Did you take the helicopter trip over the Napali Coast? It's a beautiful area that can only be reached by boat or helicopter. We used to boat in and camp there. Only ate what we caught. You can take a zodiac into there as well but the North shore is probably too rough right now.
Anyone remember the show Fantasy Island? Tatoo would yell, "the plane, the plane!!!" There is a lagoon with a waterfall dropping into it at the start of the show. That's on the South side of the island and I caught some nice bass in that area as well.
Damn I wish I was there right now!

We haven't done the helicopter thing. We have done aNd will do again the boat tour. We are looking at taking the 7 hour tour that includes snorkeling over off Niihau. I think the waterfall you are talking about is Wailua Falls? Or is that a different one?

Re: 3 more days til Kauai!!!
Don't forget to stop at oki's and get your pancakes. Man the kids loved that place, and the old waitress is a hoot when she tell's you what you're going to have...LOL. I can taste the banana pancakes now. I wanna go to...the kids have gotten up the nerve to go snorkling at Lehui (sp?). They wouldn't go while we were there but the minute we got home....snorkeling in the bath tub. I think I wanna retire there!!!

Re: I am back from Kauai
Well I am back. The trip was great. The weather in Feb. was a little rough. Onshore winds 20-30 mph. I met up with a local who took me down a rutted dirt road to a beach where a mountain river meets the ocean. It was an awesome spot. We didn't catch anything but, had a great time and met a good person. He and his son brought all the gear, including a kayak that was needed to cross the small river and drop off the gear on the beach. I had an offer to go night fishing but, wasn't able to go. I had prior commitments with my Wife . They go out on the shallow reef with the kayak and spear fish with using a dive light to find the sleeping fish. We found more great beach spots, places to eat and met great people. I have some pictures of some fish I snorkled with. I will post them tonight. We are planning our next trip already. It will be during a different time of year though.
Aloha & Mahalo,
Ron

Re: 3 more days til Kauai!!!
Iam also going to Kauai the beginning of May. I called around about charters and was hoping I could keep my catch and ship it back home. None of the charters I contacted do this. Basically my take was you pay big money for them to take you out fishing and the skipper keeps the catch and sells it to the local markets and restaurants. Basically they are double dipping off you. I understand the fact that they dont want any of the fish to go to waste, which I could see happen in some cases. But come'on I would like to dig my teeth into some of that as well. Maybe I will save my money and do a trip in Mexico where you can keep your catch. Just my
