Default Dinner for the Folks?

(Sorry, no non sponsor contact or web sites)

Okay so the folks are coming all the way from Jackson Hole Wyoming and want seafood on the coast.

Dad is an artist in Jackson Hole his website is listed above. If it doesn't work try googling it sometimes it is weird.

I'm taking Dad to the convention because he is just a few months from his trip on the inside passage on a 47 foot Nordic Tug he is Captaining (just thought I'd get him a little fired up).

Anyhow I haven't eaten at a lot of Restaurantson the coast so need some help from the Dogs.

Favorite Restaurant on the coast?? Near Newport??

Steamed Clams are Dad's favorite.

thanks for the help-

Ryon

Tidal Raves Seafood Grill in Depoe Bay is one of my favorites. It is right on Highway 101 and only about 10 miles from Newport.

I've fished a bit on the inside passage, and been through there many times, although not as captain. But drag him my way and we can swap sea stories from southeast alaska. I fished halibut there for 8 years back in the 70s.

I'll second Tidal Raves in Depoe Bay. Quimby's in Newport is great, too, but they're not really a seafood restaurant per se, but they do have several dishes.
Sorry, I just don't do seafood in resaurants much, I guess!

I thought that Tidal Raves might be closed due to remodeling, so I called. Yup, it is closed until mid-March. Wish I could help you out on the seafood thing. I have been mystified as to why close proximity to fresh seafood does not necessarily translate into great seafood restaurants?

Any other ideas for TubeFly? Otter Crest any good? Embarcadero?

Our all time favorite is the Riverhouse in Pacific City. It is a few miles for the trip but their steamer clams are served in the best garlic brine that is good as any broth to come across your lips, you get them by the bucket, We also love their scallops (they are in a wonderful cream sauce) & their filet mingon it the best ever-very generous portions and you can cut the filet with your fork practically-the flavor of everything (especialy the beef) is outstanding. It is ALWAYS our GO TO spot for special occassions and we have never felt our meals were comprimised in any way.
They also produce & sell their own specialty salad dressings that make your taste buds dance. You also see them offered in retail-sometimes I get them at Freddies or Albertsons or Safeway, or you can buy them right at the restaurant.
Really is so worth the trip.

Friday night buffet at the Sea Hag in Depoe is a great deal for great seafood. It's always changing, but they have all kinds of seafood.

Also, a great place for steamers with a great view and usually not crowded is upstairs at the Sandbar in Nye Beach. This is a regular steamer stop for us.
