Default Boat for bass fishing

I have about $2000 and am looking to get my first boat for bass fishing. I would like to be able to take it out on the big rivers and to bring a buddy. Any suggestions (size, type, etc.)?

Honestly, if you look around, you can get an older Bass boat that needs some repair for somewhere close to what you have. Just make sure the engine and the transom are good. Then you can fix it up as you can afford it, I`ve seen some real nice boats that started out this way. Hey, come to think about it I have done that myself.

Actually if you can scrape up another grand there are some great deals out there like this.

Keep your eyes open for an entry level boat. A $2000 40hp Tracker will probably be in better shape than a $2000 150hp Ranger.

Since actual fishing for bass rarely occurs above five or six miles an hour, you should be able to find a fourteen foot aluminum boat with high sides and equipped with an older 9.9 or 15 hp in good shape that's within your budget constraints; probably much less. Whee! more tackle! Such a craft will get you, eventually, get you to the holes and, most importantly, back.

$I found a solution, I only had $1650 but i wanted an aluminum boat and i also wanted a newer looking boat cuz i wanted to take the girls out too. I got two of my buddies to join and each of them contributed about the same amount and finally found another guy who contributed $550. We bought a nice looking bass boat and since then have spent thousands on gears and changing motor cuz we broke the lower unit on the johnson that came w/ it. Anyhow, it's better if you save up and buy a nicer one than buying one that might not be reliable. Whoever said that "a worse day of fishing is better than a day at work" hasn't has his lower unit gear broken on the river.

Try these.......

I found these in a matter of minutes. None of them are new but I don't think the fish care much.
My boat is a 1976 14ft lowe that leaks a bit, but get's me up the river and back. It's great for the willy but not quite enough for the columbia.
Good luck!

I should have said that, ideally, I don't want to have to buy a full-size truck to tow it. I went to look at a 14' bass boat yesterday and even that was too big for my car. It seems like the small Valcos would work. Or maybe a jon boat. What I'm wondering, though, is how big one of these would have to be (length, beam) to take it on the rivers safely and to be able to stand up and fish. Or is it just not doable?

Hey there.

I'd check everything on the water before your purchase a $2000 bass boat. Check the electronics, the pumps, lights, etc. And hopefully the seller has engine records or a machanic you can speak with.

I only say this because its tough to find a boat that will last very long around the price range...but it can happen so good luck bud.
