Face Paint problems ???
Anybody have a recommendation for a face paint that stays but cleans off easily at the end of the day. I'm gettin' tired of rubbin' my face raw when I get home.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
I like to take a pair of panty hose and tie the legs in a knot, cut excess leggs off, and pull over my head. Paint the panty hose not your face.
It works excellent for a removable camo, after cutting a couple holes for eyes.
This has worked well for camo, problem is I keep getting distracted thinking of other things and going home

Re: Face Paint problems ???
I know exactly what your talking about, and finally switched to a face mask. It took a bit of getting used too, but much easier.
I use the light weight mesh style, as i feel i can hear through them with little trouble.
I'll ussually just wear it around my neck until the time comes to throw it over my face. Some guys just can't stand to wear them, and can't adjust too them. I too just got sick and tired of scrubbing. There was times that the paint was so tough to get all off, i had to resort to SOS pads.....Yooouch!!
Enough of that........ Mesh face mask for me.

i like the HS cream. fairly easy to get off. I hate face masks for big game/turkey hunting. especially with my bow.

The bill of your cap works as face paint too. Don't make direct eye contact and you're good to go.

HS Cream Paint stays on pretty well.
And it's amazing at how well and quickly it comes off with a little liquid soap on a washrag with some warm water.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
This is exactly the reason why I don't care for face paint. But I'll have to try the baby wipes.
I latched on to Herb's "burn a cork" charcoal method. Washes right off.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
I have several problems with face masks (for me personally)
1. Gets in the way....of calling....of peripheral vision...of spittin tabacky
2. When looking through binoculars as I often do (especially during goose hunts)...it fogs up my binoculars horribly!
This being said...
I usually carry two face masks with me in my blind bag as well as face paint for those who forget .

Re: Face Paint problems ???
You guys said it baby wipes with no alcohol keeps from drying out your face I am one of the few that can't wear any thing over my ears. But I think camo head nets break up your face better than paint you look like a stump...Plus face paints bring out the kids in us..grin

And fogs up my glasses too (even though I put anti-fog on the lenses).

Re: Face Paint problems ???
Most situations I've found don't require it. Face mask fogs glasses terribly. I put on paint when there is alot of sun or the birds are obviously flaring.

I had the same problem of not being able to get it off. It looks like it's off, but when you look close your pores are still black/green/brown. try makeup remover. put some on a cottonball and clean it off that way.

Baby oil. Worked on military camo for years; should also work for hunting camo. Plus the oil is good for your skin!!!!!!!

Jon - you should check out my mask. it is a lightweight/tight fitting (but not constrictive) mask with eyeholes and a mouthole. i can see with it just as well as without it an it doesn't interfere with calling, eating, drinking or telling dirty jokes. lol. i can even wear my cap without adjusting the band size.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
Thanks for the replies guys!
Let me start off by saying Roy; I'm really worried about your choice of nylons for your head. Might want to consult a professional. I'm thinking that maybe there's something in your past that you really need to talk about.
As for the others. I've tried masks and they just don't cut it for waterfowl hunting. It really interferes with calling. When duck hunting out of a stand up blind I can get away with keeping my face down, etc. For goose hunting out a of lay out blind, I really feel the paint helps. Because lay outs are so tough to see out anyway, I have to try and get every advantage I can. Being able to sneak a few more looks to watch birds is advantageous to I.D. them and be able to call the shot at just the right moment. I will give the HS paint a try. John, I will also get a supply of the baby wipes. I hope that takes care of the problems. Thanks again guys!

lol..i wasn't trying to change anyone's opinions. i hated masks too for a long time, but hated face paint more. it's a good alternative for those that don't like to mess with paint.
one question though...wearing makeup makes you feel cool?

Re: Face Paint problems ???
D3...I agree that it is not neccessary for some hunters, but how do you tell your buddy that looks around a lot that he needs to cover up when you aren't. A lot of times I'm just waering it so the guys in my group will too.
One guy concealing himself well vs. 4 faces and pairs of hands. The latter can get you busted quick.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
true... i just dont hunt with people that are novices much. I suppose if i had a bunch of rookies, that i would make them wear a face mask. its so nice to hunt when i know what the other guys are going to do, how they will respond to a bird at a certain height, and when its time to let them have it, without saying a word.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
i suppose it is possible that you could conceal yourself wll enough, and without any movement at all..then camo itself would be unnecessary.
facemasks, facepaint, gloves, etc..are all just one more tool you can use to help reduce the possibility of something going wrong. i wouldn't call someone a "rookie" just because they covered their face..i would call them a smart hunter.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
if they cant shoot ducks without covering up, they are rookies.
camo is NOT necessary. I shot ducks on S.I. this year in my fishing jacket and waders. If your outline is broken up, you dont make a lot of movement, and dont show the birds your face....

Re: Face Paint problems ???
I remember that day though Dave....it was one ofthe best days the entire Eastside had all year....ALSO...the unit you were hunting was holding a pretty high bird per gun average.
I went out there a hunt day or two before that and killed 7 ducks from 12:00 to 12:45...midday.
I agree with you for the most part, but some days a fishing jacket and waders (non-camo) wont really cut it.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
no, but it can be done is all i am saying. I havent worn camo waders in 3 years.
Camo is not the that important an element for 99% of duck hunting...
Its the movement and showing the birds your face, that really will hurt your hunts.

Re: Face Paint problems ???
D3S,
I agree about not needing face paint when duck hunting. The majority of the time I spend in a duck blind is sitting upright and then standing to shoot. Its really not a problem to keep your head down and still view birds reasonably well. The major problem I've had and where I think camo face paint helps is when goose hunting. Having to watch birds and ID them is a tough deal when in the lay out. Especially when they fly behind the blind or are on the corners. Lay outs are tough enough even if you don't have to ID birds with 100% accuracy. The permit zone makes camo paint or a face mask an asset IMHO.
