Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
Most are using Tuff line and a few are using proline. They use line Rated from 50 lbs. to 100 lbs depending of the size of fish and water conditions. Wind it on tight so it will not burry in itself and you won't have problems.

Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
For fishing in the estuary for keepers 30 lb Izorline mainline. 50-80 lb dacron for leaders. We used to use mono leaders also but the dacron makes the half-hitches very well and they stay in place a little better.
Also the dacron leaders will last several fish where the mono was one or two. With 30 lb mono main line you still have to check your line every fish for frays.

Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
I use 80lb spectra for all sturgeon fishing (Tuff line but 100% spectra is spectra). Spool the line on tightly. For terminal rigging, slide a plastic slidder on your main line to run your lead from, then a few beads to protect the knot, then Palomar on a swivel with a McMahon connector (pass through the loop twice tieing the overhand part of the Palomar). I leave my sturgeon rods in this state, ready to attach a baited hook with 80lb Dacron.

Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
From a boat I would use braid but from the bank in a bunch of bankies I would use mono to keep from cutting my fellow fishermen and women off.

Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
I use 80 Lb Tuff or Power Pro doesn't matter which depends on best prices when I fill my reel. Use 80 lb no matter what size of sturgeon I am going after. Joes in Salem is where I get line, and they don't carry over 80 lb or I might consider 100 lb. Joes has been having power pro for $.08 per yard regardless of weight for the last 6 months. I spoke with the Power Pro rep and they are trying to get the market away from tuff line by offering such a good price.
I have caught shakers up to over size 10'-12'. I use the dacron leaders as others do with a slide for the weight. Vary the size of hook depending on the size of fish you are targetting. Color has never mattered to me. I have white, green and hi-vis yellow.

Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
I like the 80# Tuff Line in plain white for sturgeon. Tried Power Pro once because it was on sale but it didn't last two seasons before I started breaking off keepers. I usually run the Tuff Line 4 years before I respool and no problems yet.

Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
80# Tough Line. 80# dacron leader. Braid is not so good off the bank (when casting is important) for a number of reasons.
I usually use the same reels and just switch them from rod to rod based on where I'm fishing. A 320 or 50H looks a little goofy on a steelhead rod, but I don't care

Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
I've been using 80# Tuff Plus, but I'm switching everything back to 65# Tuff XP (Ideally, I think Tuff+ is better for sturgeon, but I have a bulk spool of the XP). It is plenty strong to land fish (I used 65# PowerPro for 3 years with no problems), and it is just a little easier to break off if you snag the bottom. With the 80# I have to wrap it around the boat cleat and drive forward to break it.

Re: braided lines for sturgeon?
There is a rebate by Berkley. They allow 2 coupons per person/family. Buy any $10 (lines, lures, etc) and get $5 rebate. Freddys' have some Berkley stuffs (berkley big game line) on clearance at 50% off . You may find some good deal there. Have fun searching and don't spend too much.
