Default Trash pick up.

I am going to start carrying a plastic bag when I go fishing and pick up trash along the riverbank. I've done this before and I've seen others do it also. If enough of us would do this then streamside garbage would not be so much of a problem. The TV Chapter of Northwest Steelheaders has a roadside trash pick up also.Let's get proactive in our conservation efforts and we can make a differance.

On some days a guys needs to pick up trash floating down the river dumped out of boats while guys fish. I can not tell you how many glass jars, plastic bags and orange peels floated by when I was out on Saturday.

The sewage spill is horrible but the trash we all can do something about, pack it in pack it out!

I couldn't agree more. Sometimes it benefits more than the environment. One time, I was fishing on a small river in Washington when I saw some trash along the river and took out a bag to put it in. Just then a guy shows up and says I am fishing on private land. Not knowing this, I said I was sorry. The man looked at my trash bag and said, "It's ok, you can come fish my land anytime!"

Stew,
My steelhead club (Eastside Steelheaders)
also does a few river clean-ups a year, its fun for the whole family, and some of the things you find make it fun too, lots of lost tackle from the high water, and well you name it. and people see you doing it and like what they see, some people that actualy care about the river.

I took my wife to River Mill Dam a few years back and we picked up two plastic bags worth of trash. She could not beleive how some of these anglers treat our environment.
I still wonder what the locals who stomped on that trash every day thought of us doing that.

A good idea that BOE and Steehead put me on too was joing SOLV adopt-a-river program. They hooked me up with Erin over there and she is getting me hooked up with the volunteer program. They have good relations with county and city goverments and shes checking on letting me in to a locked down area so that I can take in a trailer and haul off the large debris like tires and the such. It will be a good experience for my kids and I look forward it. Go to WWW.SOLV.ORG for information on this program. I could always use extra help.
