Rainy day sheds! (pic heavy)
Found 7 sheds this morning. The first find of the day was a year old 4pt tucked under a Manzanita bush.
50 ft away I found this little spike...
Another 200 yards and I found the first brown of the year, a nice 4pt...
I was almost back to the road and stumbled upon another year old 4pt, after taking pics I realized it was the match to the first shed I'd found...
After crossing the road I found this old 4pt that was really chewed up, I left it for seed...
About an hour later I found what I first thought was an elk spike, but it was actually a mega spike off an old buck! The knife is 7-8 inches long for comparison...
The final shed of the day was another fresh 4pt I found laying up in a Manzanita bush. My first hanger!
The days finds minus the old chewed 4pt.
I also found several smoking fresh buck rubs! But nothing laying at the base.
{no animals were harmed in the finding and photographing of these sheds}

Trust me, you don't WANT to start! You'll never be able to quit. It will consume you until you NEED your antler fix. It's a nasty disease!
I had two choice's yesterday. #1 go to the sportsman show and rub elbows with 10000 of my closest friends #2 go shed hunting and hike in the woods without seeing another humanoid all day. Tough decision.

Re: Rainy day sheds! (pic heavy)
Not a bad day Ron...I picked up four over the weekend down here, but only one fresh one. Had the entire family up looking for a set that is proving to be a little elusive...Great job and one heck of a spike...

He's right. After a while the wife will draw the line at displaying them in the kitchen and bathrooms because every other space in the house is already occupied by antlers. Your yard will look like a deer/elk graveyard. We won't even talk of the garage. It's like kids or cars. It's one of those hobbys that sometimes gets a little out of hand. There should be a disease called S.H.E.D. Shed horn enjoyment disorder.

Not only that, but it teaches you BAD habits, like continually looking DOWN instead of out through the trees like you're supposed to. It sure is a good excuse to get out in the off-season. (Is there an off-season? )

Thanks folks, glad you liked the pics. Lots of boot tracks went into finding each specimen.

Re: Rainy day sheds! (pic heavy)
OK so now you have 56 shed's laying around the yard, lets see something creative you can do with them besides making a Chandelier out them. I give a lot of mine to a friend that makes Peace pipes and other traditional indian stuff.

Re: Rainy day sheds! (pic heavy)
Good work! I was out Sunday for an 10 mile hike on the East slope of the Cascades. Weather was great. All I could find were big bucks still carrying their antlers. Very little turkey sign and no winter kills. Maybe next weekend.

Here's an antler/wingbone combo turkey call I made last summer. Makes some sweet turkey yelps!

Re: Rainy day sheds! (pic heavy)
That is an awsome day, I need to learn where to look for sheds better. I spend a lot of time in the early spring looking for sheds. These places I look I know have a lot of deer in them but I never find their sheds. The only ones I have ever found have been by accident while turkey hunting. Is there any type of area that one would be more apt to find sheds in?
