Default Crab trap?

I've always used rings.. so i went down to GI Joes and got one of them thar fancy traps that were on sale for $18... nifty looking device. My questions are:
What is up with the little rings on the top? One is welded, one is tied on with string.. whats up there?
and, where does one best tie the rope? just to the top? Seems kinda fragile for that, I'd be afraid of ripping the thing apart when hoisting it up!
One rope tied to the middle? a dual line to each end?
What do you fella's do?(ladies too obviously!)

Thanks!

I've got 2 of these traps and they work pretty good, but they are a bit flimsy. They sell a harness with four clips that snap onto each of the top 4 edges. My friend bought one and it was pretty much worthless. I just tie a rope to the middle and make sure it wraps around 2 or three different "squares". I have no idea why one of the circles is tied on with rope. I just use the one end of the trap that folds down to dump the crabs out. Another thing I'd recommend is getting some of the commercial type bait holders. They are like little tin cans that have rubber snubbers on each end and you just suspend them in the middle of the pot. These only work if you are going to use smaller bait - I buy the squid that the commercial guys use and it packs in the cans real well and lasts longer than fish carcasses, chicken, shad, etc. I like the pots as opposed to rings since you can go fishing and come back to check the pot several hours later. If you are going to crab often, I'd make the investment and buy 2 of the really heavy duty pots that are about $100 each. They will last forever and won't break after a few years.

Circles are tied with manila cord which will easily rot if the trap is lost. This allows the crabs to escape.
