Default Would you shoot BIGFOOT?

So with all the questions about whether or not to shoot a "collared" bird, it got me to thinking about all the stories of hunters that have seen "Bigfoot" and just watched it walk off. Maybe if one of those guys had shot one we would not have to deciede if they are real or not. I have had a couple of guys on my boat that fully believe they have seen one. I know a couple of other people that seem sane on the outside and truly believe they have seen one. There are people that I would otherwise believe all that they say, but they have said that they have seen one.
Well I just wanted to say that in the event I am properly armed and have the opportunity, you will not hear a story about what it looked like. You will be able to come on down and take a look at it yourself. I would in that event put it on the ground and likely be calling for a little help to get it out in a state of completeness. I would imagine the BIO's will be interested in studying it. So would you shoot one!

No, no, no! I would use my best Chuck Norris Round-House Kick, and then tie him up like a calf in a goat-ropin' contest. Then I'd turn him loose in downtown Portland.

No, wait, that's tooooo cruel. Better to shoot him.

Nio wonder Bigfoot doesn't want anything to do with humans!! Cripes, some people would kill ET too!

Oh well, there are people out there who mistake humans for animals so hopefully if one of those wannabes sees Bigfoot he will mistake it for a human.

Me and a buddy in 1994 actually shot at one that was making a very swift escape through some open timber in the coast range while up gold prospecting in a canyon stream. We got 3 shots off with a 9mm before it was gone.

There were foot print casts taken, and the state actually had dogs up looking for 2 days, but lost the scent in a swampy area. I'm sure i can dig up the article somewhere.

Now if my memory is correct, didn't a guy that was on his death bed confess to the whole thing. I thought that it was a few years back. Maybe he was just trying to get his 15 minutes of fame before he visited the big man upstairs.

Could the Northwest's most famous legend be a hoax? A Washington man tells KATU he is the one wearing an ape suit in a famous Bigfoot film.
In part two of Ed Teachout's investigation, he uncovers the man that suggests Bigfoot is a big lie.
Even armed with evidence from KATU's investigation proving Bigfoot hoaxers exist, most believers remain convinced that the creature lives.
"Nobody in the Bigfoot world that knew anything was fooled by Ray Wallace's films, because everyone's always seen his films and everybody laughed at them," said Bigfoot filmmaker, Blake Eckard.
The first time Dale Lee Wallace proved how his Uncle Ray's Bigfoot sandals fooled millions into believing in Bigfoot, he thought the legend would die. It hasn't.
In fact, in the year and a half since Ray Wallace's death, his family has been harassed, even threatened by people who don't want the Bigfoot legend to die.
"I got some pretty nasty calls," said Ray's son Michael Wallace.
Though Ray used to be highly considered by some as a Bigfoot expert, he is commonly criticized as a practical joker.
"I mean he's been a hoaxer for years, we knew it," said Bigfoot researcher Dr. Ray Fahrenbach.
However Bigfoot believers have never laughed at one particular film.
The film, photographed in 1967 by Roger Patterson and Bob Gimlin, is considered definitive proof that Bigfoot is real.
"The movie has been analyzed in exquisite detail by a forensic analyst," said Fahrenbach.
Fahrenbach said scientists and researchers conclude that the creature in the Patterson-Gimlin film is not human. He even has a casting of a footprint left by the creature.
Roger Patterson died several years ago, but his partner who helped him make that famous film back in 1967 in northern California currently lives on the outskirts of Yakima Washington.
The Gimlins didn't want to speak about the Bigfoot film.
However, their neighbor who lives about a block away, is talking enough about the film.
"Bigfoot is a hoax, I don't know if there is a real Bigfoot out there, or not. All I'm saying I was the guy in the suit in the Patterson film," said Bigfoot hoaxer Robert Heironimus.
Heironimus said when he was 26 years old, Roger Patterson agreed to pay him $1,000 to be filmed walking along Bluff Creek wearing a Bigfoot suit.
"I never got a dime, never got a dime for it," said Heironimus.
Ed Teachout: "I would have thought you would have been upset and wanted to blow the cover right?"
"Well I could have, but I promised Roger I wouldn't tell, and I figured about two or three years ago I decided to tell my story and get the truth out. Thirty five years was long enough," said Heironimus.
Heironimus said the suit he was wearing in the film was made by the man who created the outfits for the movie, 'Planet Of The Apes.'
Ed: "Where's the suit now?"
Heironimus: "I have no idea, I have no idea."
Could this Washington resident really be Bigfoot?
Fahrenbach doesn’t think so; he said it was impossible for Heironimus to be Bigfoot.
"It's the truth? It's the truth," said Heironimus.
Ed: "You don't have anything to gain by this?"
Heironimus: "No sir, all I want is my $1,000 I was promised 35 years ago. Plus a little interest maybe, you know. (laughs)"
Even though Heironimus said he did not make any money as Bigfoot years ago, he stands to make some money now because he tells his story in a book that was just released called, "The making of Bigfoot."

I Think that this is the story i remember hearing about

Do NOT in ANY circumstances dress up as Big Foot! You will get shot. Some people will shoot scuba divers that look like nutrients(however that is spelled) So I'm sure a well camo'd turkey hunter has been mistaken as bigfoot more than once. So...just take pictures and tell you stories before you kill someone.

Nope dressing up like Bigfoot and walking around in the woods would be like throwing on an old elk skin and some horns for camoflage during elk season.

Now the warm water thing is very funny!

Last time I tried Bald Eagle it tasted more like Spotted Owl! At least the way my friend the "Barn Owl" cooked it!

Now on the serious side! I do not believe there are "Bigfeet" out there. I just have to think someone would have showed up with one by now! On the other hand I read a book years ago about a Polish soldier that escaped from a prisoner of war camp in Siberia. Him and some others walked all the way to India. As they were crossing the Hymalaias he discribes and animal they saw that would be like our "Bigfoot". Why would he put that in the book if he had not seen it. The book was fantastic enough already. He stated just what he saw and let you make up your own mind. The book was "The Long Walk". Good read.

So how about "Bigfoot" recipies!

I personally would chase him down and give him a Bic, maybe if he wasn't so hairy all you trigger happy people out there would leave him alone! Maybe then he could pass as an earth muffin and live his life peacefully wandering the woods eating happy mushrooms.

If I wasn't "threatened" I would shoot it with the digital camera. But if it "charged"..........well that's another story.

Well, with all the body hair I've been sprouting the last few years I'm about ready to take ol' Bigfoot in for a DNA test....don't want anybody shooting a potential family member?

Thanks for clearing that up. The Skamania County bigfoot law ties in nicely with all of the bigfoot sightings in that county that hit the news at the start of every tourist season.....Most of which are reported by a certain store in the heart of bigfoot country...

My favorite Bigfoot story. After Mt. St. Helens blew her top, a ton of reporters were in the town of Cougar WA. asking all kinds of questions. One out of state reporter asked a waitress if she believed in bigfoot. She said heck yes, that is how they can tell the mountain was going to blow, the bigfoot were coming through town with their suitcases.. Someone said that story made a paper in NY state..

If you see "Paul Bunyan" first don't shoot, I believe he is a little bigger than "Big Foot".
Good Luck;

Sorry Baltz but I would love to go on a Blue Heron killing spree.
Oh buy the way I'd let that Big Footed Bugger have some led.
Lets not forget that this is for fun because he is not real.

Nope, just don't need to. If I saw one I doubt I'd ever tell anyone either.

A few months ago I might have shot him, a few months ago I might have shot that buck in the Steens standing 10 feet from my truck but not anymore.

I'd only shoot one with a camera. Not too worried about seeing one though.

Or unscrew the top on his salt shaker. I'm not messin with Sasquatch. Those are great commercials though.

All the guy's that would drop the hammer on him are guy's that will most likely never see him. The critter is obviously intelligent and has senses beyond our own. I personally wouldn't/couldn't unless there was imminent threat to my own well being at the time of the meeting. Though there might be substantial financial gain and notoriety made, the beast would most likely be confiscated by the state or feds.

Yes I would shoot, and to make some of you happy I would get a lot of sausage and jerky made and I would finally make into Eastmans magazine maybe even the front cover

"No, no, no! I would use my best Chuck Norris Round-House Kick, and then tie him up like a calf in a goat-ropin' contest. Then I'd turn him loose in downtown Portland. "

The only things appropriate for capture and release into downtown Portland are cougars and wolves.

15 years ago, at Higginson-Henry Wildlife Area in Kentucky, there was a rash of Bigfoot sightings.

The area is an archery-only deer area that had a large number of very nice whitetails on it. I was out there, stumbled across it two years before the sightings and made some video tapes. A couple of buddies went, told a few more buddies, and before you know it half of North Carolina was heading to Kentucky. Yep, valuable lesson learned on my part there.

Anyhow, the locals got sick and tired of the non-residents crowding the area and I honestly couldn't say I blamed them. It got real bad the second season.

To be fair, it was a really amazing place to hunt. You could see really nice bucks up there at all hours of the day and a shot was almost guaranteed. The second season, one buddy and I got there around 10 am, and before noon we each had deer on the ground. We got my buck out first and when we got back to his, there was a father and son shooting at the dead carcass! We're talking a dead deer, gutted and tagged, with the dad trying to keep a straight face in front of his son arguing with us that they had shot the deer while it was bedded down. The number on the tag settled the argument pretty quickly....

Anyhow, I'm getting off topic.

A friend of a friend named Brandon was in a tree stand when he saw "an 8 foot high, hairy animal, chasing a herd of deer while it was making loud shrieking noises". Brandon didn't scare easily but came out of the stand and started out of the woods. He left every bit of his gear in there except a couple of arrows- he figured he wouldn't have time to draw the bow.

He got to the truck just before dark, met his hunting partner, and they proceeded to the ranger station. They got there and while reporting the sighting ANOTHER truck pulled up with two more hunters telling the same story.

The ranger called his son, grabbed a rifle, and set out to investigate. I can tell you without a doubt that if the Bigfoot had been spotted, the ranger would have killed it.

Things got "spun up" in a hurry and there were more validated sightings within a couple of weeks. One of the "deer crossing" signs was repainted by a prankster into a "bigfoot crossing" sign and there were even "big foot prints" painted on the road at the crossing. I saw those myself and got a good chuckle out of it.

News spread around the deer hunting community and it made a few papers and even one national magazine. It was finally confirmed to be a man in an ape suit who wanted to get rid of some of the hunting pressure. Can't say I blamed him but he very nearly got himself capped- even in an archery only area there were people up there hunting him.

The Bigfoot out here (WA) was also a hoax, the suit came from Morris Costumes. Would I ever shoot one? No way, you'd kill somebody.

regards, aw
