Default Sandy river report

Well I made my first trip on the Sandy for springers/steelies of this year yesterday 3/17, from Dabne down to Lewis and Clark. It rained all day (yea) and the water was perfect, maybe a little low but nice color. Unfortunately I only had about 6 hours to spend and probably would have done better if I had more time to consentrate on my favorite spots a little more. I did'nt get anything, saw one real nice native (about 15-18lbs) taken and released by a bankee and one other native taken and released for a client in a guide freinds boat. All in all, I had a wonderful day in the rain and I am overly excited to get going on the springers in the Sandy. Oh yeh, tons of people dipping for smelt all the way down from Dabne to clear past I84, only problem, no smelt.....they're gone.

JK

PS - Coot22, was that you in the willows hole in Ryan's boat? I was the guy right ahead of you in the blue Fishrite DB. If so, did you guys get into any fish yesterday?

artwo, yeah that was ryan and I!!! I thought that was you! I am sorry i did not get a chance to say hi and get to meet you. yeah the water was perfect except for a little low but the color was good. Ryan and I fished it hard in the willows. Notihng. Ryan had caught eight fish out of that hole in the past three times out. we did not catch a thing all day. We hit it hard too. Birdhunter, Ryan said that there was something on my windshield and that he threw it away. Was that your note? I just got your email about you coming up this weekend. I was staying at my grandmas place. Anyway, going back to Portland on tuesday afternoon and am planning to fish threw friday at least. The sandy was dead. the fish were there, but they were not aggressive. I was very surprised that Ryan and I did not get into at least one moving aggressive steelie. Oh well, maybe next time.

Because 90% of the fish are in 10% of the water!

Yeah Coot, where were you? I saw your rig on Saturday and left a note, but I didn't get a call. So either the fishing wasn't worth going out or you found some honey hole. Artwo, when did you finish your drift? I was hanging out talking to the smelters and the boats at the L&C ramp for a while mid-day. Not too much going on in that river. Kicked over to the Clack the next day and missed one steelhead on a bobber. I really want a springer.
