Default Mucho Steelies

I know most of you "Dogs" are hardcore saltwater fans (I'm just learning) but if you're interested and live anywhere near the Columbia (upstream from Wauna Power lines) They're catching quite a few steelhead and 12 reported salmon at the mouth of the Wilamette. Maybe coing in early? It could happen. PS I would appreciate any area information on reasonably close halibut areas near Seiku or Neah Bay that would be OK for beginners. GPS coordinates helpful. Also good bottom fish spots. We're taking baby steps in this venture. Thanks Plunker

Plunker,

Welcome to the Salty Dogs. What kind of boat are you running? Many of the halibut areas out of Neah Bay are in the open ocean and cation should be taken if new to the salt. Tell us a little about yourself.

The Salmon Univ. website has all of the halibut areas mapped out in detail on thier website.

Tower Todd wanted me to give a little information about my self. Well here it is...
I live in Longview, WA and I'm an avid freshwater fisherman (anywhere's from 3-5 days a week) I have a 20' Thunderjet with 115hp and 9.9 kicker. The boat is well known in our area probably due to the name
" Lotsa Nooky" I am in the Army but am on my way out at the 16 year mark. They already got me for 3 combat tours and my 24 y/o son for 2 combat tours. Now all I want to do is fish and work as a Kaiser Nurse. My best friend (Fish-on-deck) and I want to branch out to ocean waters, but we don't want to end up as shark **** either. So we are hoping to find a relativly safe but productive area to fish the first time out at Neah Bay come Halibut season.

welcome to the site and congratulations for having your time in and getting out.
I have an empty garage freezer that should hold your halibut quite nicely once you get them dialed in.
Easy to find.....out Ocean Bech- right on 42 nd and look for the dusty, cob-webbed covered rods.

If you are looking for great bottom fishing, just go to Neah Bay or just East. You really can't go wrong. First thing in the morning, take some fly rods with heavy line and hit the kelp beds alon the banks for Sea Bass. Use a black Fly with a weighted head and a 3" black/purple feather tail. They can' t resist. You may hook a ling cod that way if they don't bite through the line.
