Default Bow hunting Turkey

I am looking for some advice on arrows for turkey hunting..I currently shoot Easton Axis 340's tipped with Ironhead 100's for my Mathews Switchback XT...These are not the cheapest of arrows and broad heads, but I also feel they are not meaty enough for turkeys...I want something with more "POP" for turkeys..I feel my arrows blow through to easily for the birds, but are great for big game hunting..Gold tips maybe?? Broadheds?

Use an expandable broadhead....Aftershocks are a great option for gobblers. Any fixed blade head will burn through turkeys no matter what arrow you use...Good luck!!!!

Try the guillotine blades...they will take the head right off a turkey....

I have shot a few with NAP spitfire 100's. They fly just like my ironhead 100's mounted on axis 340's (great minds think alike )

I also put something extra on my arrows that really seems to work great. Take a muzzy grasshopper small game add on. Drill out and remove the part that mounts on the shaft. You will be left with just the four connected spring/grabbers. Now slip this on your arrow shaft before you mount the broadhead. When you hit a turkey with this the spring will slide down the shaft until it hits your vanes. It usually impedes penetration enough to keep the arrow in the bird, OR.... will completly gut the bird and it will be dead on impact. This usually destroys the vanes and grasshopper but you now have a turkey

I perfer to hunt without a ground blind. Get a partner/caller and set up in front of them like you would when calling elk. f

I have always shot turkeys with whatever my hunting arrows were.

Used to be aluminums with 125 grain Thunderheads.

Now Easton Axis with 100 gr Muzzys.

I've killed 6. 2 went through, 4 stuck in them.

You can also buy a backer. Looks kinda like a metal star that sits between your broadhead and shaft. Supposed to deliver more shock.

Thanks for this part, I asked the same question on my thread (http://www.ifish.net/board/showthrea...4#post1420514), but didn't really get a good answer.

Beaverfan,

Partner hunting can be very effective, but you can be just as effective on your own. Plus, if the turkey disappears for "no reason" you cant blame each other for not holding still or calling too much, it will more likely be from the unseen coyote sneaking in
