Default LIFE JACKETS

i was just wondering if anyone has an opinion on the new MUSTANG air force life vests, looks like there are 2 models, one that inflates automatic when it hits the water and the other is maunualy inflated by pulling a cord, i have always worn a big life vest but these "look" prety good, less bulky, but am conncerned about a mal funtion with the co-2 cartridge, any comments ??

I don't know the Mustang brand, but I imagine it is similar to the SOSpenders CO2 life belt I own. This has a manual inflation tab and comes with a nylon web belt you can hang other stuff off as well as the actual fanny pack-sized pouch worn in front. Pull the tab and and Mae West inflatable pops out. Pull the jacket over your head and you are floating in style. I've been using my "life belt" for a year now and wouldn't go fishing without it.

Stormy Seas also makes a float coat that you pull the rip cord on. Can be a real life saver if you actually wear them.

I don't own either style but I think I'd be more inclined to go with the automatic kind.

That is the main draw back on the co2 variety. But because they are smaller they tend to stay out of the way better....making them more likely to be worn. Unless it is sunny then they make a great seat cushion ... Hate when I do that at the wrong time
