Herring in Newport Bay ?

Any recent reports about the Herring " Bite "
would be appreciated.

I did some herring jigging at Newport (just pass the Science Center) last Sunday and the fishing was excellent. I understand there are still lots of the herring in the bay. You might call Harrys Bait and Tackle to confirm this.

i just talked to harrys yesterday 3-15-01
he told me they are there but not like last weekend..he says if you have a boat you'll just have to hunt them down...i'm probley going down this saturday,,let me know if ya go..i'll be in a 19' starcraft fishmaster

I talked with Harry this afternoon and he said it would be tough fishing even with a boat.Seems the fishing was very good before the commercial boys went in the bay.Same story different day.By next week I'll be paying a buck a piece for Green Label Herring.Any one want to trade for some smelt ?

Herring are in at Westport docks . Jigging a limit in a hour.

Just got back from Newport. The herring fishing is still good - one time had a herring on all six of my flies. Crabbing is only fair however.
