Lets try it again. Sice no one has answered my last post on this subject. Does it make a difference if the smelt you are using for bait are spawned out? Come on you Sturgeon Masters.

Tanner,
I have not found that gators really care. The only thing is that this early in the season they have plenty of food. Towards the end of the season they seem to eat almost anything.

My 2 cents

I have not found it to make a differance. Think about it, mnost of the smelt that they eat naturally will most likely be spawned out. They are usually such opportunistic feeders that it wont matter much.

Hey Tanner. I don't know that I've ever used the floaters. Most of the bait we get is spewing eggs right in the bucket. I did get some of the used up males this year and bagged them separate from the prime bait I got later on. I'll let you know if there is any preference.

The only thing I have noticed about smelt is that the fat females seem to work the best. I think the eggs make a difference. I'm just guessing. If the bait is carefully handled and vacuum frozen it will work.

The bend is your friend!!
