Default Adopt a stream/lake

I know that the Oregon has had great success with the Adopt-a-Highway program to help clean up our roadways. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in setting up county teams to clean up the lakes and streams in those counties for garbage. This could be a family event that even the little ones could be involved with supervision. I spent sometime cleaning up garbage on a local lake last weekend but it was way more than a one man job.

I think this could become a worthwhile event and teach our young ones the importance of good stewardship at the same time.

Tshickam - SOLV has a program to adopt a river. They ask you to adopt 2 miles, but they will take anything. They have one girl scout group that adopted 1/4 mile. I believe they have a rafting group that adopted some 50 + miles of the John Day. Erin at SOLV runs the program, it is a good deal.

2 year commitment, must clean the river twice a year.

I adopted a 2 mile stretch of the Wilson river about 5 years ago. Erin at Oregon Adopt-A-River has been great. They supply you with all the trash bags. Everytime I head out to the river I take a trash bag with me. It's a win win situation.

I'd like to get involved with this program. I don't know if this program is being operated along most of the smaller lakes and streams in Columbia and Clatsop counties because they all appear to have trash. A local lake is stocked by ODFW is a trash pile. I know it recieved a clean-up a few years ago but the lake has tires, cans, cloths, etc. in the lake and you have to walk in a 1/4 mile because of a locked gate. It's too much stuff for one guy to clean up and I'd like to have local help in doing so.

BOE, if I can get the Erins # from you maybe she can hook me up.

If you adopt a stream of lake, does this give you legal custody of all the fish?

If I adopt a stream or lake, can I claim it as a dependant on my taxes............jk

We should all do our part to keep our rivers, streams and lakes clean. All it takes is to carry some garbage bags with you when you go. If you don't find any garbage you can alls put all those fish you catch in it so you dont get fish slime all over on the way home.

Thanks, guys for the info. I emailed them to help me get it organized. I'll let you know how it goes.

By the way Jen, I've already got my hands full with the custody of three little smolts already....I'd hate to find out that I may have legal custody of other fish in the stream.
