Default IFQ Alaska Halibut Update

Recreational Fishing Alliance has produced a form letter to send to North Pacific Fisheries Management council. If you want to make a diference but don't have the time to write a letter, here is your chance. Just sign it, then send or fax the letter to the address below. Remember, we only have until the end of the month to get our comments in.

North Pacific Fisheries Management Council
605 W. 4th, Suite 306
Anchorage, AK 99501-2252

fax 907 271 2817

If you are a member of a group, please inform the group leadership of this issue. The second link is to a form letter that groups can send in to make their voices heard.

Thanks for posting this, Mike. I will send mine in since I support the RFA and the things we do.

Just a suggestion though: next time a letter like this is written out on a computer, could it be made printer-friendly? Kind of a headache for me to copy and paste it into Word and format it.

Thanks again.

Sorry about that, actually, it came to me in Word format but I changed it to htm because strangly enough, not everyone has Word. If anyone wants the Word documents, e-mail me at thinker@gamefishin.every1.net and I will get them to you.

When I get home tonight, I will see if I can fix the html into a printer friendly page.

Thanks for the info Mike. I fish SE twice every year completely on my own. There are some problems with halibut fishing in Alaska particularly near some of the major tourist communities that need addressing. While I don't completely agree with the form letter, it is generally quite good. The ADF&G is the best agency to assess and address the particular area needs so long as they are not too heavily persuaded by the lobbying interests up there. The recreational charter loby and the commerical fishing loby are both very strong. The typical resident (and non-resident do it yourselfer, like me) are not well organized, and consequently, nor represented. Therefore, I hope all who comment will modify the letter a little according to how they see the issues. Get involved and write......the organizations with $$ inetersts certainly will get many letters out.

Thanks for the response, Mike. Not to be anal, but there were some grammatical errors in the letter (I is uh Anglish buff) and I'll send you the letter to your email listed above.

212jet and others: We can do our part to help our fellow fisher people out by copying the letter above and just signing your name to it (modify it if you wish like 212jet said). All the more reason to join the RFA. If you are also looking for other clubs to join, I find the wild steelhead coalition a good club too. They get my support. I joined the RFA because I have fished in several different states in this country for different species, and if I can help out others in other states, then I did a good deed
It's time to stop ******** about things and put things into action. And no, my last name is not gilchrist for those who are wondering....it's Hoosierdaddy...lol

here's the url for RFA: www.savefish.com

I just sent 3 letters out:
1) Signed on behalf of the RFA
2) Signed on behalf of Ifish
3) Signed on behalf of the website/group I'm working for....name to be released shortly
