Default Trim Cylinder

I have a 1991 Mariner that has a leaking hydraulic cylinder. Mercury said the part was NLA. Does anyone know what to do, does anyone repair and replace seals or is this strickly a replace only item which needs a used part? I assume the cyliner can be removed from the pump?

Thanks,

Default Re: Trim Cylinder

Fishgetter if you can get to the cylinder you can rebuild it. If there's no pitting or rust in the housing walls.

I rebuildt the trim cylinder on my '03 Merc 9.9 bigfoot last summer. Merc only sells a replacement no seal kit.

You'll need a spanner wrench to ge the top off the cylinder. Once that is done you local hydraulics retailer can sell you the O'rings. There are no seals as in metal clad seals in them just 3 o' rings.

The hole job on mine took about 30 minutes.

Hope this helps
