Default Smelt still in Longview?

Any locals want to run down and check to see if there is still any smelt in the river? I was thinking about dipping wednesday or this weekend and was wondering if they are still thick. Thanks

Jeremy,
I just read a post on another BB that said the smelt were in the north fork of the Lewis river and that you dip on Sat., Sun. and Wed. with a 10# limit. I don't kon if this is fact but you should be able to confirm.

Due to the tremendous run of smelt this year, the WDFW opened all of the Columbia tributaries on the Washinton side to smelt dipping at the same time they extended it to three days a week.

Anyone go dipping today? Will have an opportunity to get out this weekend if there are any of the little critters left. Any suggestions as to where to go this late in the season?

Went dipping today at an undisclosed location on the Cow. It took about 8 dips to limit. A lot of the little buggers are dying though, looking like it's for bait use only time now. Unless you like eating the fungus coated buggers. Which is what a bunch of people dipping today said they were going to do. Yuck!

I went smelting with my 4 year old nephew yesterday and it took more than one dip to limit out for the both of us. After I caught my 10# I showed my nephew how to dip. He got his 10#'s all by himself. It did take around 20 dips each to get our limit and they were all fungusy and looked like they were all spawned out. I think that this will probably be the last week you will want to dip.
