Re: OK I'll start it, Boston Hoax
I want one of those signs, maybe craigslist has some.
The cartoon they are advertising is definitely alquida because the talking box of fries has shifty eyes and facial hair.
If they have been up for three weeks before anyone noticed they can't be all that bad, and the fiasco is an advertiser's dream.

Re: OK I'll start it, Boston Hoax
What i don't get is didn't the people at turner get the cities approval to place these things on bridges ect? If not then that wasn't too cool. If so then someone didn't speak up.
I think in today's hindsight 20/20 second guessing world they had no choice but to over react.

Re: OK I'll start it, Boston Hoax
Typical of the masses to be freaked out by anything they dont understand. I find it funny. I wouldnt give something like that a second look.
I guess it had wires and batteries and "looked" bomb like. Give me a break. People act like wires and batteries are fundamental signs of a bomb.
Oh well though. As was stated before, its an advertisers dream. Mission Accomplished.
I'm interested in the cartoon now, and I dont even have a TV to watch.

I this this quote from a Boston resident perfectly describes the situation
"Many young Bostonians think city overreacted
‘We’re the laughingstock,’ resident says after cartoon signs prompt scare"

YouTube the ad prank interview they did with the press. If you think the joke is funny, you will die of laughter!
I wish I could meet these guys and tell them I am not worthy of their presence. The way the disregarded the press and made a mockery of the whole thing is just hilarious.

Once you have disarmed or hauled off a few "bomb like" devices up close and personal, you will think that they are even funnier.
Regardless of how corny such a thing might appear, there is still a major pucker factor.

I remember reading somewhere that real bombs are usually disguised as something that doesn't look like a bomb.

You are correct that they should have taken a cautious approach to the situation.
You are also correct that if it was a bomb that we wouldn't be laughing.
The only thing I'm laughing at is the knee jerk over-reaction to the issue. Make it the biggest issue they can , and your apt to see few more instances.

I asked the questions so here are my answers
Idiots?.....I don't know
Arrogant?.....Absolutly, for the marketing company go around and place these electronic bill boards around town with out getting the proper permits from the city is pure arrogance.
Over React? These bill boards may have been up for a few weeks and by coincidence the city leaders get a message from the feds to be on the lookout for possible terrorist attacks. I don't know what went on behind the scene.
Generation Gap?....Yep
Genius?.....Only if they make more money than they will have to pay out in fines.

Re: OK I'll start it, Boston Hoax
from what I have heard it sounds doubtful that they will be able to recover anything cause the people who did this didn't do anything illegal. that Boston acted foolishly is Bostons problem.
The city would have to prove intent to incite terror (or whatever you want to call advertising) and that is going to be hard/impossible to do. (particularly since these things have been installed for weeks)
now if they can prove that the marketing co. was someone responsible for trigger the feds to alert the city... (that would be a different situation)

Re: OK I'll start it, Boston Hoax
The media's ignorance is just as bad as Boston's knee jerk reaction.
I think it's pretty funny myself. I laughed when I first saw this on the news. ATHF is a funny cartoon.
People need to get a grip and quit living in fear of everything... though some entities would like to see that. I wonder if terrorist organizations are buying up loads of Lite-brites and LEDs?
I still haven't picked up my newspaper off the driveway today... hope no one called the bomb squad.
If we live in fear over things like this, the terrorists have won.

Re: OK I'll start it, Boston Hoax

Re: OK I'll start it, Boston Hoax
I heard there is thing called an X-ray and you can see through stuff. I wonder if you could take a look at one of them there cartoon terrorist bombs and have seen what was in in it? We shoot concrete floors all the time and it only costs a couplre of hundred bucks. How much did Boston spend?
As far as our homeland security......well let's not start that one.
