Can someone provide a picture of jig bait that is use for sea bass and rock fish? Someone had said curly tail jig works, but not sure what it looks like. I mainly use sand shrimp to catch them, but can alway use alternative bait if , I run out.
I'm usually able to catch more Black Rockfish than I know what to do with, using swimbaits. I generally use the Storm Wildeye, but everyone makes them now so you can pickup whatever is on sale. Berkley has one that is scent infused but if there are lots of fish around, it isn't necessary and just ends up making your fingers stink. For the Black Rockfish AKA Seabass, I would go with the paddle tail or the curly tails in 3-6 inch lengths. If you miss a fish just let it drop as these baits look very realistic when they are sinking and they usually pick it up again. I use a steelhead rod, cast right to the edge of a kelp bed, let it drop a few feet and start my retrieve. Thats the fun way atleast.
that last one there, I have always done the best on that style grub but in white for the bass. And a big one (like 5") grub on a 1 or 2 oz jig for Ling Cod.
What size for the bass? Does 5 inch work for both? Fish N Russ, is fishing off of the jetty good in Florence? I am thinking of heading down there Saturday and trying. Thanks.
