Default A Big Skeena Hog!

Check out this Skeena Hog! I have no idea how large this beastie is! Pictured is a UW Fisheries graduate student collecting morphology and age data in 1990.

Just thought you'd like to see the photo.

Sorry, the photo went away.

Parker

Now real men fish that way. Ride the boat along side the fish, and whip the lasso at his tail! Then jump off your trusty boat and wrassle that hog down! Reminds me of steer wrestling.

A little more information for you about this picture: the student had inadvertently beached the sled in the background and was unable to rock it off the bank by himself. He used that rope and fish to pull hisself out.

This is why it is important that we do everything we can to maintain the large-fish gene pool, as the idiots-using-sleds gene pool seems to be going strong.

Fobb - part of the problem might have been the anchor rope out the front, but then again he did go to UW, nuff said.

Good pic Parker! Thanks. The river looks like the Kalum; tributary of the main Skeena River. The Kalum gets Kings over 100 lbs. but they are near impossible to land on sport gear because the river is narrower and with a faster gradient current than the Kenai. One test netting a few years ago by the BC fisheries dept. got a 105 pounder they pictured and released. I saw the pic in a Terrace tackle shop. That hog above looks to be right up there. Most are usually brighter than that. Fish have been sport landed in the mid 80 lbs. there, but those record sized ones just use their strength and size along with the swift current to kick @$$. Yeehaw!

BOE:

That's not an anchor off the front. He was keeping his Molson's cold.

Dude...yuk. I think you guys have the wrong storyline on this one. This guy is actually part of the UW Fisheries "Carcass Program" and he's 'bout ready to dump that mooshball back in the local creek.

I was just wondering what you guys are talking about when you refer to the anchor rope?

I believe that fish is a jack spring. Most guys fish the Skeena where it is still possible to land those beauties. The Kalum is closed to chinook angling above the lower canyon. Which means you guys can't pull them off the redds anymore.

On a second look, that looks more like a seal with a long nose than a hog. Go look again. (ya, I know it's a fish just not purdy )

Thanks for the physiology lesson. Just looked like it was rotted out on the big picture. Now I see it is just a little piggy Ricky Sweatervest beedy-kind of eye!
And actually, yes, I are.

You know, now that you mention it chnookie, I do see the resemblance between Ricky Sweatervest and a spawned out salmon. It all makes sense now.

It would of course be much much funnier if the damn picture would come up.

Technically, to answer your question, look in the fishes eye socket. That's usually where the fishes eyes are found. Please tell me you're not a graduate of OSU Fisheries School!?!

For kicks and giggles, I will click on the "Magical Zoom Button" and show you the fishes eye:

<CLEEEEEEEK>

Any more questions? Oh, and yes, the Dawgs *will* bite OSU this year. Count on it, Beavs.

Parker - Go Dawgs!

Sorry, I do not know a guy named Thiesfeld.

We're not too sure what this fish is. All we know is that it's very dark, mean, and a big ol' hog!
